Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition Delayed

Overhaul Games said it's delaying the release of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition from this September to November 30, 2012. The developer says if you already pre-ordered, you'll get something extra for the wait. The PC version was originally launching on September 18 with iPad and OSX versions due in the same month.

Below is the full statement about the delay from Overhaul Games president Trent Oster.

Dear Friends of Baldur’s Gate,

When we first announced Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, You set fire to our servers and we were overwhelmed by the huge wave of support from the fans of the original game.

Once the fires had subsided, thousands of you posted suggestions and requests on our forums. Dozens of volunteers from all over the world helped us improve game play, squash bugs, and generally fine-tune the game. Even more came to help work on translations from English to more than 16 other languages.

Executing on our plan to make the best Baldur’s Gate possible and responding to that overwhelming feedback, we’ve added new characters, areas, and story, creating many new hours of game play. Yet the suggestions, fixes, and translations continue, and more volunteers keep joining.

After recently reviewing the game and then consulting with our partners, we've decided to ensure that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is the best possible product on launch. Thus, we have pushed back the release date of the game. Our release date is now November 30th, 2012.

To all who have pre-ordered, we ask for your patience as we move toward our final release date -- and we will be working on something a little extra for you. To all who have volunteered, we thank you for your dedication and support.

  • Hey if they need to take the extra time to make sure everything is working smoothly then by all means take the extra time.

  • Take your time. I got a huge backlog of games to complete and even more for next month's new releases.

  • I was thinking about downloading the original Baldur's Gate off of gog, they're having a weekend sale, but seeing this I'm not sure if it's worth it to get the original now, or just wait for the Enhanced Edition.
  • It's cool, I've got Borderlands and Guild Wars occupying my time, and Assassin's Creed in October.

This will be a welcome addition to that time period.

  • Yeah I don't mind waiting. There's a glut fo games out now and soon that are going to keep me busy.

Guild Wars 2, FTL, Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2. I'll wait.

  • I don't mind the wait.

  • I... just want this... on my Android

  • Hey, take all the time you need if it results in a better product. I've got a huge backlog to get through myself and will probably have openings by the time it comes out. Nice to see how encouraging they are to help from the fans and such.

  • Im kind of split on this. While I dont mind waiting if they are going to make the game better, but dont wait four days before the game was supposed to launch to make this announcement. Im sure they knew long before today that they were not going to meet the deadline. And this something extra better not be some *** DLC weapon or something that is only cool when you are a level one character. Its Baldurs Gate so ill deff wait but i dont like how they waited until the 23rd hour to announce.

  • Noooo! I was really looking forward to playing this week. Ah well, I can wait.

  • Wow I can't believe I forgot about this. I never got to play the original but I hear it was just like Champions. Champions was probably my favorite game for PS2 and I'm really looking forward to a solid remake. Take all of the time you need. Us gamers will be broke for the next few months if we aren't already.

  • **BRAAAHHHH**, this my most anticipated title of the holiday. Never got around to it, and I've been molded into a big top down rpg fan.

  • Since I gripe right and left about rushed out unfinished games, I'm always glad when a studio takes the time to do right by its customers.

Balder's Gate was the first game I played with my kids and it started us off on a road all travel to this day.  I just want a game that does justice to my all my fond (probably rose colored) memories.

  • I'm fine with a delay whatever they need to do to make this as awesome as my heart says it will be is fine by me.

  • Ooh, many new hours of gameplay. That would be awesome.

  • first off i'm one of the biggest BG fans ever but whenever i hear the word "delay", I get worried.  I always feel like when a game is delayed it is senentenced to death.

  • Something Extra! That makes waiting worth it for anything.

  • While I'm really looking forward to getting this game I'm cool with the delay. I just hope that I won't forget about it while I'm playing so much Bordelands 2 and X-com.
