The lights are on
The cable network, which was originally designed as a 24-hour video game station, has been moving away from its original format for some time. Now, reports have surfaced that G4 may receive a suave makeover -- with a name change for the network possible.
The entertainment industry bible Variety is reporting that NBCUniversal, which owns G4, is planning to rebrand the network, focusing on a more upscale, stylish format aimed at the "modern male." Variety says the format could be similar to the men's fashion and culture magazine GQ.
Since its inception, G4 has struggled to find an audience, though a few shows like its long-running video game/pop culture program Attack of the Show! and American Ninja Warrior have been successful. Recently, popular X-Play host Adam Sessler (and the G4 personality with the strongest ties to the game industry) parted ways with the network. It's not known if that parting has anything to do with the network's rebranding.
The network appointed a new general manager early in 2012, former NBC marketing executive Adam Stotsky.
While video games would likely remain a part of this new, lifestyle oriented approach, it appears that the network that was to be devoted to video games is moving farther away from its roots.

Whatevs. . .
No duh Adam Sessler left due to the re-branding of G4, he did an interview a while back in which he stated, (btw this is paraphrased) He didn't like the fact that G4 is starting to stray from a video game based channel, and that shows like Attack of the Show are becoming more like The Soup and such. Also I think its BS that they think they are struggling to find an audience.
That's a bummer.
Man do I miss the good old days of that channel :'(
As much as this blows, it may be necessary. Apart from Ninja Warrior and Attack of the Show G4 has little to offer anymore. It is much more convenient and almost necessary (because getting multiple sources is important) to find game reviews online, the same can be said about game trailers and even E3, PAX, and Comic-con coverage. It will be sad to see such a huge part of my tv watching past change but it may be for the best.
But it's been G4 forever... >_>
G4 IS DEAD TO ME!!!
G4 needed the makeover, that channel is garbage now. GameInformer should think likewise cause these damn clowns are long over due for theirs.
I thought they already had that channel and it was called Spike?
In my opinion after Adam left X-Play and that other guy left Attack of The Show G4 kinda died. Now it's gonna turn into some cheap knock off for a "male audience".
Im so glad i dipped my pen into your ink bro.
Honestly never watched G4 because every time I landed on it while channel flipping, there was never anything about games on. O_o
The moment they took out Arena, Revamped X-Play, and started showing cops... this channel was dead to me! :/
This news simply sucks. A sad day for gamer's everywhere. RIP G4.
G4 has always sucked. Bring back TechTV. I hate those fake ass fans on attack of the show and x-play can eat a nut sack. Also how many hours do you need to show cops? F you G4. You deserve to die off
Tech tv hmm
