The lights are on
The cable network, which was originally designed as a 24-hour video game station, has been moving away from its original format for some time. Now, reports have surfaced that G4 may receive a suave makeover -- with a name change for the network possible.
The entertainment industry bible Variety is reporting that NBCUniversal, which owns G4, is planning to rebrand the network, focusing on a more upscale, stylish format aimed at the "modern male." Variety says the format could be similar to the men's fashion and culture magazine GQ.
Since its inception, G4 has struggled to find an audience, though a few shows like its long-running video game/pop culture program Attack of the Show! and American Ninja Warrior have been successful. Recently, popular X-Play host Adam Sessler (and the G4 personality with the strongest ties to the game industry) parted ways with the network. It's not known if that parting has anything to do with the network's rebranding.
The network appointed a new general manager early in 2012, former NBC marketing executive Adam Stotsky.
While video games would likely remain a part of this new, lifestyle oriented approach, it appears that the network that was to be devoted to video games is moving farther away from its roots.

No big surprise really: G4tv pulled-off an "Mtv" with removing majority of their game-related programs with filler crap.
I hope they still do the E3 shows, because that was a only reason I watched it for the longest time.
I forgot this channel exsisted O_O.
As if this hasn't been said a thousand times already...i havent watch the channel for years...i liked it back in the day...but endless marathons of cops, cheaters, and such overplayed reality trash is ridiculous...like history and game show network....same three shows repeated day in and day out....
G4TV came too soon. The gaming industry was still coming into its own back when the PS2 and original Xbox were released. Had the channel aired in more recent times, I believe it would have had a different fate.
It certainly didn't help that not many providers actually offered G4TV when it first aired. Oh well. Who really needs a channel about video games when there are plenty of video game news sites that give you all the information you really want anyways.
I don't like this. Maybe it won't be as bad as it sounds.
also whose dumb idea was it to dumb Icons. seriously that show was the $%*!.
dedicated to gaming? Pfftftftft whenever i went by that channel if was always either cheaters or cops
No longer will the nerd haven that was G4 be the same. With a rebranding comes a new approach, and I fear that the nerd stereotype will be appeased, but not the true nerds....Hope the whole making money thing works for them....well, actually I hope this new change costs them viewers and money and they take a big profit loss. But no hard feelings big corporate businessman, we understand (Said nobody ever).
this channel still thinks gamers are dorks and nerds to put dumb shows full of idiotic jokes..i hate what this channel has become. even xplay sux. i only watch ep and reviews on the run, the rest is garbage. oh and if they stopped hiring dumb girls hoping that gamers are losers with no lives, maybe they will concentrate on good shows and how to present them...freaking moron
When I read the title I hoped it meant they were going back to their roots, but it looks like they're moving farther away from them. Seeing as the only good shows on G4 are X-Play, AotS, and Ninja Warrior, as long as they don't throw out any of those or change them too much, it couldn't get much worse. All of the reality TV that comes on the channel these days is terrible.
This really is a crying shame. I truly do enjoy their "Movies That Don't Suck" presentations which I usually watched when a James Bond 007 movie came on.
It will be a shame to see this network walk away from its identity like this.
Similar to GQ? No, thanks.
Thats a real shame and sheds more light on Sesslers departure.
The guest hosts on Attack of the Show have been a joke, to say the least. Might as well put the nail in the coffin.
This doesn't surprise me as recently even AOTS hasn't been good, and most everything else they show is a rip off of TruTV which I don't watch anyway. It's the reality tv syndrome every channel is falling into, they see reality tv shows making money and have to make their own and they sacrifice their original purpose to do so.
I can't even watch it now, Olivia Mun left I was like its okay I still got Kevin, then he left and I was like (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ "I'm done" So I haven't watch G4 in a couple months I want my old crew back!
