The lights are on
The cable network, which was originally designed as a 24-hour video game station, has been moving away from its original format for some time. Now, reports have surfaced that G4 may receive a suave makeover -- with a name change for the network possible.
The entertainment industry bible Variety is reporting that NBCUniversal, which owns G4, is planning to rebrand the network, focusing on a more upscale, stylish format aimed at the "modern male." Variety says the format could be similar to the men's fashion and culture magazine GQ.
Since its inception, G4 has struggled to find an audience, though a few shows like its long-running video game/pop culture program Attack of the Show! and American Ninja Warrior have been successful. Recently, popular X-Play host Adam Sessler (and the G4 personality with the strongest ties to the game industry) parted ways with the network. It's not known if that parting has anything to do with the network's rebranding.
The network appointed a new general manager early in 2012, former NBC marketing executive Adam Stotsky.
While video games would likely remain a part of this new, lifestyle oriented approach, it appears that the network that was to be devoted to video games is moving farther away from its roots.

***... Video games and techs is what made G4 in the first place. As mentioned in the articles, X-Play, AotS, and Ninja Warrior is the only shows people tune in to.
Sad.
It will officially become Spike TV 2.
I haven't watched TV in AGES.
There's this thing called the internet.
It's pretty useful because I can get all of my gaming news in an instant.
Meh, I watched G4 almost 24/7 back in 2002 and 2003 before the TechTV merger in 2004. I continued watching until 2006 or 07, but it really went down hill after the merger, to the point where today it's basically unwatchable. I was angry when G4 abandoned being all about videogames when they merged with TechTV, and later on in 2006 when they abandoned tech in general, but now, well, I really don't care what they do at this point, I wouldn't care if the channel was shut down, there's just nothing worth watching. It's a shame too, I think a videogame channel could be really successful, if only they were more persisatant, there were some great shows on G4 back in the day :/
This is truly horrible news. I really feel like G4 started too soon, and never had a chance to find the audience it was created for. It was never going to get where it needed to be showing hours of reruns of Cops every day, either.
its mtv all over again
I had a feeling for long time that this would happen. Ever since AOTS started to get political it felt like the channel will become just anothr news network.
Then again G4 has been in a coma for years.
Is there where I'm supposed to say I'll miss G4? Eh....
Wait for it...
..nevermind! Aint happening. Sorry to waste your time!
All thats ever on is COPS and Cheaters. XPlay is on sometimes but a lot of what they talk about can be found on here and many other game websites.
Dang "I" wished this day wouldn't arrive.
Their going to renames it "Cops on Demand" Its a network that could have worked, but whoever was running it, had no idea what they were doing.
:(
That's quite a change in direction. I wonder how successful that will be.
No big surprise really: G4tv pulled-off an "Mtv" with removing majority of their game-related programs with filler crap.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEEP SARA UNDERWOOD!!!
