Insomniac Announces Ratchet: Deadlocked HD

Insomniac hosted a panel during PAX Prime 2012 in Seattle celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ratchet & Clank series. The  team revealed several cool bits of trivia regarding the series’ history and details about the new downloadable game, Full Frontal Assault. The crew also announced that they’ll be following up the Ratchet & Clank Collection with the release of Ratchet: Deadlocked HD on PSN later this year.

Here are some other cool bits the Insomniac team touched on during the panel:

  • Clank originally looked more alien than robot. He was also many robots that would cling to Ratchet.
  • Insomniac revealed color tests for Ratchet in red, blue, purple, yellow, blue, and more.  One Insomniac dev said “Following Spyro, the last thing we wanted to do was another purple hero.”
  • Insomniac employees were working 80- and 90-hour weeks when Insomniac president Ted Price asked them to start work on Ratchet 2.
  • The Mackerel 2000, a rejected weapon, was simply a fish.
  • Insomniac says that the relationship between Ratchet and his girlfriend Talwyn will never extend beyond him "having feelings for her." It's a line the developer doesn't wish to cross.
  • There was a rejected grilled cheese sandwich launcher. Enemies would get stuck in the cheese or become vulnerable as they ate the sandwich. An nuclear upgrade would make the cheese so hot that it would melt enemies.

Stay tuned on more information on Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and Ratchet: Deadlocked HD.

  • That grilled cheese weapon sounds like the greatest thing ever!
  • Man i wish i had ps3

  • I wish this had been a part of the HD Collection. I enjoyed Deadlocked, though not as much as the original trilogy. The PS3 titles have been on a steady decline since then.
  • Wonderful. Share a website with you , ( http://www.chic-goods.us/ ) Believe you will love it. We accept any form of payment.
  • This is the game that got me into the series.I am so exited for this.

  • Definitely downloading Deadlocked. It may not be on the same level as Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal, but it's still a blast of a game.

  • I like the Ratchet and Clank series, so this is good to hear! I've played most of the Ratchet and Clank games, past and present, and they are all fun to play.

  • Deadlocked is the ***. I remember sleeping over at a friend's house and blitzing through the game in one sitting. Alot of fun was had that night.

  • Yes! A friend and I were just talking about this. Man, am I happy they're releasing this. This game doesn't get the respect it deserves.
  • Guess what people! I'm thinking of getting a PS3. Now I no longer have to say "I need a PS3..." Rejoice!

EDIT: MY favorite Ratchet and Clank is and will always be R&C 1.
  • Man I wish I more memory on my PS3.

    Good times with Deadlocked.

And I wish both those weapons were in the game's.

  • Deadlocked...Another game I still have to play

  • Until All 4 One, I probably would have said that Deadlocked was the franchise's weakest entry.  In a series with a level of quality this high, however, the weakest entry is still pretty good, and Deadlocked was a fun game.  I personally felt that the HD collection was incomplete without Deadlocked, as well.

  • Awesome.  This was my second favorite Ratchet game.

  • I've never played any of the Ratchet and Clank games, looking forward to finally seeing what they're all about with this new collection.
  • One of my favorites for sure!
  • I was wondering why this one was being left out. This is the only one I never played, and I'm glad I'll get the chance now! :D
