Dawnguard May Not Be Coming To PlayStation 3

In a somewhat cryptic posting on the official Dawnguard message boards, Bethesda said that the technical issue preventing Dawnguard on PlayStation 3, "is not a problem we’re positive we can solve." Here's the full statement:

It's been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we're at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you're talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.

It's not a flat-out "no" in regards to Dawnguard and future DLC appearing on PlayStation 3, but it's not looking good.

  • That's a bummer.
  • Hmm, I wonder hat issues they're having. That's really too bad.
  • This will be a serious bummer if we don't get it.
  • Bethesda really owes an apology to Playstation gamers. This version of Skyrim has been an absolute disgrace.
  • I guess I'm going to have to get the 360 version then. This really sucks, and I can't imagine other DLC being released smoothly either.
  • My poor buddy's going to be disappointed, if this doesn't end up releasing for the PS3. He's been anxious to play this ever since he's heard about it.

Hopefully, they'll be able to iron out all the issues they're having at some point in the near future.

Btw, there's going to be a helluva ragefest in the comments section soon...Get behind cover!

  • I find it utterly incredible that Bethesda is the only developer of this gen to have such damning problems with the PS3.

The more time that goes on and the less problems other developers seem to have (indeed, the better the games have become over time) makes me think it's total incompetence on behalf of Bethesda.
  • aaarrrrggggg, so frustrating. hopefully we'll get other DLC in place of Dawnguard?
  • I have yet to beat the original so I'm not to worried about it as long as I get it in the game of the year edition I don't care and I know I it will come out when there done fixing all the bugs for it.

  • Such a trainwreck.

  • Sucks for PS3 only gamers.
  • This doesnt suprise me one bit bethesda is a huge disappointment anymore. They claim to have this great game but they cant even program it to run on ps3. Sorry to say butthe developers need to go back to the drawing board and learn how to do their job
  • Alright, let me get this out of the way first: Skyrim was my favorite game of 2011 and possibly of the entire generation. Even though I played it on PS3, I still had a wonderful time despite the technical issues. That said, this is just ridiculous. I understand that they may have run into more issues than they expected, but if they knew the actual game was hard to make on PS3, why didn't they just come out and say, "We're not making Dawngaurd for PS3 due to technical issues, we apologize for this matter." And that would have been the end of it. Now even they don't know if it's going to happen or not, and they've already created a substantial amount of anxious consumers. I'm am kind of sad that I may never get to play any of Skyrim's DLC, but I'm sure they're are a lot more people out there who have stronger feelings than me. One more thing: Bethesda better get their *** together for the next-gen systems so they don't have this mess again, and even then they would have to reassure their customers.
  • I don't get it. I know the initial problems Skyrim had were due to memory allocation on PS3, but they "mostly" corrected it (although it should not have taken 5 months to do so). Perhaps Bethesda should be talking to some of the other devs they have published for (ID, ARKANE), they don't seem to be having this large of an issue in PS3 compatibility.
  • Dawnguard didn't interest me too much. I do want to build my own house tho, so hopefully I'll be able to do that. I just don't get how Bethesda hasn't figured out the Ps3 yet. Plenty of ported games have played just fine. I feel like Bethesda doesn't really care for Sony all that much.
  • "I love Bethesda a lot, but if you really can't develop games properly for a system, don't release them on the system. Whether it's the fault of Bethesda or the way the PS3 works, it's clear by now that the studio's games are woefully inferior on that particular platform, and knowingly selling a poor product is worse than not selling it at all." - Jim Sterling of Destructoid.com Oh Bethesda.. *shakes head and walks away*
  • This is *** ***. How is this possible? It's obvious that the issues exist because of how they did the game on the ps3...they made a 360 porting and this is the result. Unbelievable.
  • That's fine, since I have no intention of buying any vampire related DLC ever. Vampires suck.
