Gears of War: Judgment's New Mode

Epic Games and developer People Can Fly are adding a new multiplayer mode to Gears of War: Judgment called Free-For-All.

As you would expect by the name, this multiplayer mode ditches team tactics in favor of sheer personal survival. The mode is playable at PAX Prime this week, with two maps on display (description direct from Microsoft/Epic):

GONDOLA - The Coastal Villa Apartments are part of the exclusive Halvo community located in the prestigious Agora foothills. Residents enjoy a host of interior upgrades, and each unit features an ocean view from a private patio or balcony. This quiet, gated community is located only a short gondola ride from the renowned shops and businesses of our active and thriving coastal community.

LIBRARY - The Alexiy Desipich Memorial Library is not a library in the traditional sense, but rather an archive of important documents surrounding his life, career, and personal interests.  An avid historian, politician, and philosopher, Desipich is most remembered as the father and creator of the Austere Canon, the basis for the Coalition of Ordered Governments, which was shaped around eight guiding principles: Order, Diligence, Purity, Labor, Honor, Loyalty, Faith, and Humility.

Gears of War: Judgment comes out on March 19. For more info on the game, check out our cover story hub.

  • This game looks pretty awesome. Unfortunately, I don't have an Xbox, but I was able to beat the first and second Gears of War games, and I thought they were fantastic! I hope all of you who have an xbox enjoy this game, it's a keeper :)

  • Free-for-all in GOW?  Sweet!

  • Sweet.

  • Why do I imagine this as being a Free-For-All where everyone hides behind chest-high walls with Saw-Offs? Look forward to it ^.^
  • I have played all three Gears games but for some reason I can not get excited for this one. Don't know why.
  • Free for all dosent sound that good to me. Ive been a gears fanman for a while and honestly im getting sooooo tired of it. My biggest dissappointment was the fact gears 3 answered NO QUESTIONS AT ALL. I have even less hope for this prequel because of the fact NO QUESTIONS will be answered again i mean if any deep questions do get answered then BAIRD AND COLE knew it the whole time. One last thing Gears 1 is the only gears game that actually made the story seem kinda scary and compelling. The last two forced emotional storys that were horrible.
  • I'm surprised it so long for FFA to enter the Gears of War franchise.
  • Hmm...I'm kind of over Gears of War. Besides, there are too many other games coming out in March that I want.

  • Should I be jumping up and down for an old-a$$ game mode?
  • Pretty cool. I'm going to fail miserably in this mode, though.

  • Cool this should be interesting. Gears is always known for team play, but Free for All? I can't wait.

  • As a big gears of war player, I won't be playing this. Gears is a team game.
  • Yeah I won't be playing it but if it brings more people into Gears then it's fine with me

  • Not really a necessary mode for Gears of War in my opinion.  The multiplayer for GOW has always been about having fun with friends and teamwork.  I just don't see the appeal, but it's good that free for all is still an option for those that want it.  Nothing wrong with game mode variety.

  • Right... it releases in March (Seems too early). Now I have to make a tough decision: this game or Tomb Raider... Anyways, this sounds like a nice addition.
  • I always seen Gears of War combat rather sluggish and more tactics based, so free-for-all may be interesting seeing as that game type works best with more twitchy shooters.

  • I have NEVER played "Free for all" before.... Looks fun I CANT WAIT! THRASH GRAPE!
  • Seems like a good game for when my cousin comes over and we're looking for a co-op game to play...

  • Free for all modes are usually pretty insane, I'm sure this will be no different.
