Psychonauts Releases As A PlayStation 2 Classic On PSN Next Tuesday

Earlier this year, Tim Schafer's Double Fine earned headlines for its record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Today, Sony announced that the company's first game, the 2005 cult classic Psychonauts, will be releasing as a downloadable game on PSN as part of the PlayStation 2 Classics program.

The game will release on PSN next Tuesday, August 28. If you've not played it, it's an extremely creative and unique platformer about Raz, a teen that with the ability to enter the minds of other (sometimes extremely disturbed) characters in the game.

  • Keep telling myself I'm gonna play this game some day....yeahhhh someday...
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the PS2 version a lot more buggy than the Xbox and PC versions? If it is, then I wonder if those issues will be addressed. Do they even fix bugs on PSOne and PS2 classics? Just goes to show how much I know.
  • good PlayStation2 to download PSN Classics good
  • Cool! Can't wait to play it for the first time... but I heard that the PS2 version was not as good as the xbox version.

  • I'm totally going to get this the second the store updates. I just wish there were more gems like this going into PS2 Classics.

  • I've never played this game. Maybe I should fix that...
  • It's about mothereffing time. Not the developers, but now an opportunity to play this game has presented itself.

  • Well this is great news as I never finished the game.
  • I have this on PC, but I haven't bothered loading it up because my supposedly better than okay laptop ran freaking limbo choppy. My whole Indie bundle going to waste.

  • I've got this game in my PS2 right now and I've been slowly working my way through it.

  • I heard only good things about this game I'm defiantly picking this up.

  • This is my favorite game and after I buy it on PSN it will be my third time purchasing it digitally. They just need to release the sequel and I can die happily.
  • Also, some of the best characters in a game
  • I'd love to play it on the Vita.  I'm not really big on playing platformers on the big screen for some reason.

  • Everyone who has only heard good things but hasn't played this game owes it to themselves to give it a try. Especially if you love platformers. This is still in my top 5 of the 2000's. Pure love and passion for games all over this one.

  • LOVED this game. The thing I hated was the ending, it just ended; I couldn't go back to finish missions, find collectibles, or even a Ratchet & Clank-style restart.

  • I've wanted this for so long!

  • Cool! But I already got it on Steam a little while ago. Though... the sound "hiccups" on my computer for some reason I can't solve. Other than that it's great. Might've been nice to wait for this version if I knew it was coming.

Of course, I'd already played this once before on PS2. It's really great, though the platforming/camera combo can be a bit off at times--especially at the very end.
