Square Enix Presenting A "New Direction" For Lightning

Need more evidence that Final Fantasy XIII-3 is being announced? Square Enix said its September 1 presentation will show a new direction for the saga of Lightning, the main protagonist for Final Fantasy XIII. Lightning also made an appearance in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Square Enix says both games have shipped a total of 9.6 million units to date.

"Key members of the Final Fantasy XIII development team including the Producer, Director and Art Director, are in preparations to present new information about the direction of Lightning's story," the company says.

The announcement coincides with a planned "Experience Final Fantasy" event at the Penny Arcade Expo on August 31.

I just screamed out loud at this news, lol. Can't wait! XIII-3 all the way! Lightning has to be one of the best female characters ever made and I can't wait to see what SE has in store for her future stories. -RGC

Didn't they take Lightning in a new direction in XIII-2? And now they're going in yet another direction for the inevitable XIII-3? The XIII series already has a polarizing fan base, and I'd bet even more people will lose interest if the characters aren't the same anymore.

While I don't mind the FF XIII games, with how bad it was recieved by the community, you'd think they would just drop it and move on to FF XV.
