The lights are on
Update: Nintendo of America confirmed Nintendo Power will ship its final issue in December. The company issued the following statement:
Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012. For Nintendo Power subscription inquiries, please visit nintendopower.com/customerservice. Check out Nintendo at nintendo.com, on Facebook at facebook.com/nintendo or on Twitter @nintendoamerica.
Original Story: Nintendo Power, one of the longest-running game magazines, is shutting down, according to reports. Ars Techinica first reported the details, saying Future Publishing is planning to stop publishing the magazine.
The report says Nintendo Power staff was informed of the closure last week and are currently being transitioned to other properties at Future. It's unclear at this time how many more issues of Nintendo Power will be published or what will happen to current subscribers.
A source speaking to Ars Technica said Nintendo was always "difficult to work with" and the company was uninterested in renewing its contract or "taking part in a number of digital initiatives that Future saw as necessary for the long-term health of the brand."
The magazine first started in 1988.
Both Nintendo and Future have been reached for comment.

What!? Why? :(
I used to get this when I had a Nintendo 64.
This is truly sad news. I've had a subscription for quite sometime now. It'll be terrible to see it go. :(
This is very upsetting. Nintendo Power was really good.
I used to get this magazine....this is very sad.
sad sad sad! time to reminisce......my favorite covers were castlevania 2 simons quest and megaman 2 cover stories!!!!
will miss you NP.
Dang... Another piece of my childhood gone. You will be missed.
That's a shame. I used to be subscribed to them back when all I owned were Nintendo consoles. Getting an xbox 360 and abandoning my DS sorta changed that, but there were some articles near and dear to my heart. I recall a cooking mama one that was quite hilarious...
Damn. I feel bummed. I need to sit in my corner for a couple of minutes.
As a long time fan of Nintendo I fear for their future and this seems like a sign of only worse things to come
And when I finally considered buying a few of their magazines(or a subscription), they fall. Never expected for this to happen.
Shocking. Actually, not so much. Nintendo likes to do things their own way, and most companies don't l;ike to be told what to do by anyone. Especially nowadays. But you would think if they have a chance to keep making money, they would work it out. Nintendo should stop outsourcing their stuff and just do the mag themselves.
