Original Story: Nintendo Power, one of the longest-running game magazines, is shutting down, according to reports. Ars Techinica first reported the details, saying Future Publishing is planning to stop publishing the magazine.
The report says Nintendo Power staff was informed of the closure last week and are currently being transitioned to other properties at Future. It's unclear at this time how many more issues of Nintendo Power will be published or what will happen to current subscribers.
A source speaking to Ars Technica said Nintendo was always "difficult to work with" and the company was uninterested in renewing its contract or "taking part in a number of digital initiatives that Future saw as necessary for the long-term health of the brand."
The magazine first started in 1988.
Both Nintendo and Future have been reached for comment.

Wow I hope this isn't true and they work things out...
I can't say it's a surprise, but it sure does suck.
If Nintendo Power is gone, then gaming might as well be dead since it has been around for so long and is so synonymous with video games. This has me bummed as I had recently been buying Nintendo Power issues with the idea of collecting them like I did when I was a teen with the very first Nintendo Power issue. I am sad now. =(
This is extremely sad news.
wow this sucks, I never subscribed to nintendo power but it is really shocking that they would stop the magazine.
Sad to hear, I remember getting them as a kid.
I prefer magazines printed, even if digital ones have more content. But this is sad.
I just got the last issue in my subscription. I guess I will not renew. No wonder I did not get 1,500 cards reminding me that my subscription was about to expire.
That stinks. Simply a sign of the times I suppose. Magazines are disappearing left and right.
I had every issue from 1 to about 100. Sad to see that it's finally come to an end.
never even heard of it. lol
It's a shame to see such a long running piece of gamer culture just up vanish like this.
My bro and I had that back in the NES days, but that was about it. Sucks to see it go.
