Crysis 3 Tech Demo Features Amazing Visuals, Handsome Toad

Crytek has released a dual-purpose trailer that shows off Crysis 3, as well as its state-of-the-art CryEngine 3. The video breaks down some of the engine's highlights, including volumetric fog, advanced lighting, and one of the best-looking toads in all of gaming.

The video below is an impressive look at what modern PCs are capable of. Crytek has been saying that their CryEngine 3 is essentially next-gen tech today, though console players will clearly have to wait until the metaphorical tomorrow to get anything close to the demo's fidelity. For more info on CryEngine 3, check out Crytek's developer site.

Here's a look at what Crytek is calling out in the video:

  • Real-time volumetric cloud shadows
  • Displacement mapping
  • Tesselated vegetation
  • Lens flares
  • Procedural HDR flares and shapes
  • Real-time global illumination
  • Dynamic water volume caustics
  • Real-time volumetric fog shadows
  • Real-time area lights
  • Unlimited particle FX lighting
  • Integrated cloth and vegetation simulation

If the above features sound like a bunch of gibberish, here's one thing everyone can appreciate. CryEngine 3 is capable of producing the best-looking toad in the business via top-secret tessellated toad tech.

  • maybe they can hand that engine to the fine people who made tokyo jungle if they plan on making a sequel.
  • Amazing
  • That's one fine ass toad
  • I love Crytek. Not only are they amazing, but they have a sense of humor as well.
  • Oh but wait... PC gaming is dead, remember?
  • The folks at Crytek have always been advanced graphical masterminds, since the original Far Cry(it was made by Crytek not Ubisoft) to the Crysis series, they always push PC's and consoles to their limits.

  • I'm in Awe simply thinking of how far we have advanced with games in so little time...It really irks me that some kids these days just take things like that for granted, unwilling to acknowledge how something started or was created....Well If things continue to progress at the rate they currently are....we might not be able to distinguish If something is a game, a movie or dare I say it......real life! dun dun dun.....
  • Man that is amazing, I didn't think CryEngine 3 was that powerful.
  • Well its nice to see they're going all the way for their PC audience, I just hope its more like the first game then the second in terms of freedom. Also, less brain dead AI would be nice.
  • Here's to Crytek! Lets just hope they can achieve the dominance Epic has with this flashy new engine. Nothings better than good ol' competition.
  • They had me at top-secret tessellated toad tech.
  • This game will look even better when the graphics mods are made for it.

  • Out of everything in that trailer, the toad still steals the show.  Seriously though, I'm loving the graphics made possible by CryEngine 3.

  • Well, it's pretty, but it's also a tech demo, which basically amounts to a CGI movie. Tech demos always look twice or three times better then what we get in-game. =/

Still, I am also glad to see they are at least trying to make video games look better this gen, even with rumors to the contrary. I mean, graphics are all we have left. The "AAA" game market gave up long ago on everything else that made video games great.
  • This is crysy!
  • is it sad that the main reason i want this game is for the graphics? i know i know. i'm a horrible gamer. gameplay > graphics. but they're so sexy!!!
  • Time to upgrade again.
  • Best toad ever!
  • Gorgeous

  • Crysis 3 is looking really good graphically. I hope it holds its own during multiplayer.
