Crysis 3 Tech Demo Features Amazing Visuals, Handsome Toad

Crytek has released a dual-purpose trailer that shows off Crysis 3, as well as its state-of-the-art CryEngine 3. The video breaks down some of the engine's highlights, including volumetric fog, advanced lighting, and one of the best-looking toads in all of gaming.

The video below is an impressive look at what modern PCs are capable of. Crytek has been saying that their CryEngine 3 is essentially next-gen tech today, though console players will clearly have to wait until the metaphorical tomorrow to get anything close to the demo's fidelity. For more info on CryEngine 3, check out Crytek's developer site.

Here's a look at what Crytek is calling out in the video:

  • Real-time volumetric cloud shadows
  • Displacement mapping
  • Tesselated vegetation
  • Lens flares
  • Procedural HDR flares and shapes
  • Real-time global illumination
  • Dynamic water volume caustics
  • Real-time volumetric fog shadows
  • Real-time area lights
  • Unlimited particle FX lighting
  • Integrated cloth and vegetation simulation

If the above features sound like a bunch of gibberish, here's one thing everyone can appreciate. CryEngine 3 is capable of producing the best-looking toad in the business via top-secret tessellated toad tech.

  • That is one purdy toad!

  • So shiny I had to watch it again

  • Very impressive! This game will look gorgeous on the PC.

  • :O looks amazing

  • Good lord, it actually says top secret tessalated toad tech. Thats fantastic!

  • It is time to upgrade my graphics card!

  • Sure Ill get this game to watch the frogs

  • Wow, Crytek has just blown my mind...
  • Thuh toad of the ages haha love it

  • The thing that completely blew my mind is at 1:11. Look closely at the tree roots, their shapes and the way they look. When it's on, it's unbelievable, it looks photo-realistic. It may sound like a small thing, but this can be applied to basically all materials, from wood to tiles to steel rails. No more of those faux-round railing and etc. This is like when I saw DX11 in action. They showed a brick road, where each individual brick had it's own look, texture and placement (some were in the ground deeper than others). Of course, as far as consoles are concerned, it's all next-gen. That's the one advantage of being primarily a PC gamer - next gen's always current:)
  • That is one good-looking toad

  • That is amazing. The destroyed architecture and organic look of the game is beautiful. Also, the msuic. I didn't like Crysys 2's soundtrack, and by that I mean I can barely remember it, and the parts I do remember were pretty average. But before it goes all techno, it sounded beautiful and really fit in with the destroyed city and vibrant vegetation. I hope that's the way they're going for Crysis 3.

  • Great. Now I'm all worried about what this will do to my computer.

  • Whoa!!! That's insanely nice. I hope the storyline is as good as the graphics.

  • Lookin better than ever
