Dragon Quest X Tops Japan Sales

The newly released Dragon Quest X for Wii topped Japan software sales charts in its first week. Since going on sale last Thursday, the game sold 420,000 units, according to Enterbrain, a retail tracking firm in Japan.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS came in at #2 selling an additional 213,000 copies, bringing total sales in Japan up to 644,000 since releasing on July 28. Rounding out the rest of the top five are Pokemon Black & White 2, Demon Training, and Just Dance Wii 2.

Square Enix needs to take a page from Level 5 and what they're doing with Ni No Kuni - that game looks amazing, and I'd love to see another Dragon Quest game as sprawling and beautiful.

It feels like it being an MMO-style game will detract from it being a fun adventure like other Dragon Quest games. I also remember Wii having bad servers from my time with Monster Hunter Tri. Won't stop me from getting it though..

DQ 10 looks good, but considering there's enough I want to buy, I'll probably wait for the Wii U version (besides, better graphics and better servers).
