How To Market Dead Or Alive 5: Swimsuits

The Don Drapers over at Tecmo have figured out the perfect way to market Dead Or Alive 5. The answer is swimsuits. Check out the eyepatch-sized swimwear that the women in Team Ninja's new fighting game will be wearing when you order the game's collector's edition.

“The Dead or Alive 5 cover showcases our dynamic cast of the world’s best martial arts fighters including Ayane, Hayabusa, Hitomi, Christie, Rig, Tina, and for the first time, Akira from Virtua Fighter,” said Amos Ip, SVP and General Manager of Tecmo Koei America. “As ‘DOA Day’ draws near, we want to show the fans that have made Dead or Alive one of the greatest, most intense fighting series what they can look forward to playing on September 25th.”

Dead Or Alive 5 releases on September 25, and the collector's edition will retail for $79.99. Check out the swimwear below.

  • What kind of a name is "Amos Ip"?
  • BABES!
  • The best kind of marketing. Team Ninja is already known for this kind of stuff, so I was kinda expecting something like this.
  • Yay AMERICA!!!!
  • If Tecmo really wants to have fan support, this lame gimmick of a marketing scheme doesn't cut it.so for another 20 bucks i get to see swimsuits.it's almost...embarrassing.i love sexy fighting chics, but this is just stupid.they should be free.unlockable skins,or something.i give em the one finger salute.
  • What's up with those giant.... Sexy boobs....?

Voice Of Austin Powers: OH BEHAAAAAVE!!

  • The question is; will I still be able to turn my age all the way up to "99" in the options menu so I can increase the bounce on the ladies...?
  • I like the flamingos in the background of Kasumi's picture. Why aren't they in bikinis?!
  • Do people buy these games?
  • Hey, if it works, why not :P Still don't understand why you'd buy a game judging from bikini babes on its cover tho...

  • Just let a couple of underage schoolgirls parade around half-naked. It works without fail. Also, why did Nintendo ever let them handle Metroid...
  • I like these screenshots!
  • So the game is aimed toward 13 year old boys?
  • Sexual repression sells!
  • Considering the topic of gender that's coming up a lot in relation to games recently, I kind of wish we could see games journalism-wide refusal to propagate the dumb eyecandy advertisements...Definitely no offense to GI, seeing as fans of DoA are probably looking for this stuff, and you give the fans what they want. But a little gameplay or some details on how the fighting's changed would be preferable to bikinis...
  • One of the main things this game is known for...
  • "Eye-patched sized" seems a bit of an stretch. I mean, I know it's the righteous thing to do, speaking out against the sexist exploitation of females in the gaming industry (that is to say, following the standard set by every other facet of society)... but don't cross the line into blatant sensationalistic exaggeration.
  • Swim Suits, only encourage men to buy this game, and really awesome females lolz
