The lights are on
Sony reports that it hasn't had a good first quarter of the current fiscal year, and the company is changing its outlook for this quarter and the fiscal year as a whole.
The company didn't break out each of its consoles specifically, but the PS3 and PS2 combined sold 2.8 million units worldwide, which is down from last year's first quarter mark of 3.2 million. Likewise, the PSP and Vita combined for 1.4 million units as compared to 1.8 over the same timeframe last year.
In software, PS2 and PS3 games went from 27.6 million to 20.1 million, and PSP and Vita software went from 6.6 million to 5.8 million.
Sony has accordingly downgraded its outlook for the current fiscal year and anticipates the second quarter to be a "severe operating environment."

I know why is this problem. MINECRAFT!!!!!!!!! if we had Minecraft then i think a couple thousands people more would buy PS3.
Give me a... PS3 PRICE DROP!!!
it's a shame, but it's to be expected this late in the cycle, 360 is in the same boat im sure. In my experience tho the PS3 has easily been the best console this gen, and im not trying to start a flame war, just stating my opinion, and yes i have/had all three consoles. So *** off if you dont like my opinion
Maybe they should have come out with another console by now?
With everything else Sony does, I'd be surprised if they vastly change their plan for their gaming division.
Suck but at the very least this loss is significantly less than some of their previous losses. So hopefully this is a sign that in the coming years profits will rise. The decrease in PS3 sales is expected considering that the media is pretty much hyping up the release of the PS4 like its coming out tomorrow.
Maybe they should invest more time in making controllers like the wii controllers or maybe they should sell 3D Monitors, maybe they should make lesser quality consoles that give you a colored light of death so you have to buy 3 more.
It can only be expected after poor vita sales, but those should go up with the assassins creed and call of duty games releasing this fall, all we need is a new god of war and it will be better than the 3ds.
This is no surprise, a ton of good games do not come out for the PS3, most games that do, come to the 360 way beforehand amongst many other things. Its a good thing my PS3 cost so little to get.
Sony, I like you the best out of the three consoles, but damn... get your act together. I am sick and tired of having nothing to buy! See this? in my hand? It's money... and it's going to a 3DSXL. That could have been your money, though, if only you made games that interest me. Basically all the franchises I fell in love with from the PS1 & 2 are either MIA or completely re-imagined into something ugly. It's within you to get good developers again and start producing the good exclusives, so DO IT.
they do run multi divisions but their sales on tvs and other products are not doing so well and now where seeing their game division taking a hit if they dont get their acts staight and stop screwing their ps3 fanbase it would lead to their undoing in a big way and also not pissing off hackers groups in the process
not shocking... its the end of a console cycle... happens at each one
like i said to my friend, Sony is slowly losing it's momentum. But everything will soon come into play.
They have to make and sell games ALL YEAR LONG if they want people to buy their SYSTEM all year long.
the ps3 price will drop no choice
