Dear Esther Dev Reveals New Game

by Jim Reilly on Jul 30, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Developer thechineseroom has revealed its newest open-world game - Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture - a spiritual successor to Dear Esther.

In a new interview with BeeJack.com, creative director Dan Pinchbeck says each playthrough of the game is locked to 60 minutes. Since the world takes about 20 minutes to walk diagonally, you'll want to play it over and over again to see what you missed. "Whatever you’ve managed to experience and achieve at the end of that time is your story," he said.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture tells the story of six characters whom you'll interact with, but the team is uncertain how they'll be implemented. ”They’re almost kind of memory traces of people that were there,” Pinchbeck says, “and how we represent them, and whether we do full-on character builds or whether we do something more symbolic, we’re still kind of chewing around with.”

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is due out next summer. Beefjack has more on the game and several screenshots. Head on over to check it out.
