The lights are on
One of the advantages of living in Japan, as opposed to the United States, is you get to play New Super Mario Bros. 2 first, unless you were trying to download the full game.
Yesterday was the first day of full game downloads in Japan and it coincided with the release of New Super Mario Bros. 2. Online issues for new features are fairly routine, but it doesn't make them any less annoying. According to Nintendo, the problems have already been cleared up, but it does make you wary if you were planning on downloading New Super Mario Bros. 2 on release. You may want to spring for the retail copy, just to avoid possible disappointment.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 releases on August 19, alongside the 3DS XL.

all online things go through problems.
What part of "The issue has been cleared up" don't you get GI? They fix a problem within a day of it's release and you warn readers to pick up the physical copy!? If anything this should be a sign of Nintendo's ability and commitment to it's fans and customers. Wish Sony and Micro as well as other game companies were that prompt.
I'm going to download it cause it will give me double Club Nintendo Points.
Serves them right for charging to much for Mario and Luigi to appear in Wreck It Ralph.
Don't worry so much about it. This was Nintendo's first time trying out digital, full-game downloads, so, as you might have expected, of course they'd have problems. In a few months or so, they'll get used to it and know how to work with it, so these problems won't happen then. Also, did anybody notice that yesterday was the one-year anniversary of when Nintendo announced the 3DS price cut and the ambassador program?
Hey, GI-- what gives? Quit getting your editorial mixed in your news articles.
