The lights are on
This fall has an impressive slate of upcoming games. Many of the most anticipated titles are new entries in previously existing series, like Halo, Darksiders, Transformers, Borderlands, and Assassin's Creed. For some gamers, this means that it's time to replay earlier titles to prepare for the latest installments. Are you one of them?
Arguments can be made for both sides. On one hand, the holiday gaming season is busy, and wasting valuable time on old games isn't giving you anything you haven't seen before. On the other hand, it does bring the events and the lore to the forefront of your mind. So which camp are you in? Will you spend time replaying old games like Assassin's Creed Revelations and Halo 3 just to get yourself ready for this year's blockbusters?

Im about to start my playthrough of both darksiders and then a fw assassins creeds to get ready for those launches
I don't usually replay games I've already beaten before a sequel, but if the game was in my backlog I will probably try to beat it before the sequel releases.
These releases didn't apply to me before last Thursday, so I'm catching up on the already released games that I want to play...
HUGE fan of Assassins Creed. Got every game, two posters the encyclopedia and ive pre-ordered the Freedom Edition of the third.
So being the first series i have complete, it seems natural to play it all over again. My favourite has always been the numbered though, II being my all time favourite. The story was full of emotion and the narrative was great.
Brotherhood and Revelations were somewhat less superior. Desmond is the main one to catch up on but playing through Altair and Ezio again has been brilliant.
Im about a third through Brotherhood though so i need to hurry if im going to get Revelations done too.
I like to go back and play previous games in a series to remind myself why I'm looking forward to the upcoming game...that said, I usually don't even get to play the new game until it's been out for a year since I just don't have much time for video games anymore.
when a new instalment comes out for a series i always try to play its predicessors to get back in the groove i remeber putting in halo 2 for the first time in months to play after i saw my first halo 3 advertisment.
ive done the same thing for every assassins creed game, gears of war
i rember doing it when i saw kingdom hearts 2 get advertised.
BUT i also remember that everytime i would play those games after i saw a new one i always felt a little mad that i didnt have the new one
I don't play the earlier titles before the new installment comes out. I don't know why but I could never get into that.
Halo has been the first series I've managed to fully collect. And i think playing previous titles is a great way to get into the mood. Not just for halo but for any game. It reminds you exactly why you love that game. I havent met a gamer who doesnt enjoy playing earlier titles to get pumped for the series's newest release
I am really excited for Halo 4 even though it would've been my first Halo experience. To get prepared I've played through Reach, Halo, ODST and I'm finishing up Halo 3 now!
