Update 3: Sony confirmed the game arrives on PlayStation Network tomorrow, September 25.

Update 2: Sony says there is still no update yet on when Grand Theft Auto III releases on PSN. "The team is still working on it," a representative said.

Update: SCEA has delayed releasing Grand Theft Auto III today on PSN:

Due to an unforeseen complication, the Grand Theft Auto III PS2 Classic is not publishing with today’s Store post. We will update you when a new release date has been identified. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Original Story [July 26]: Next Tuesday you'll be able to purchase the original Grand Theft Auto III through PlayStation Network. The game will cost $9.99. This version is a PlayStation 2 Classic title. It will not feature any enhancements, such as high-definition resolutions or trophies.

In January, the ESRB rated both GTA III and Vice City for PSN.

Shame that it's not going to support trophies. I hope they at least bring back cheats. Not sure how well it aged, but I remember this game being a lot harder than GTA 4.

you know, I played the hell out of this game back in the day, but I never actually finished the story. Granted I was very young when this released, so I only cared about blowing up cars and stuff. Maybe I'll pick this up and finish up the story.

Cant wait till they bring Grand Theft Auto Vice City to PSN. Ill be happy to play that again even without trophies. Awesome game.

i just bought the complete GTA collection on Steam for $12. That's GTA1, 2, 3, Vice City, San Andreas, 4 and the 4 DLC. but im HORRIBLE with a keyboard and mouse and cant get my PS3 controller to completely mesh with my PC. : (

I might get this game just so that I can listen to Chatterbox. Best radio station in any game, maybe even ever. I want Persona 4 to be on there next. I don't have a Vita so I can't play the Golden version when that comes out.

So that'll probably mean that the rumor about Vice City coming to PSN is probably true and will probably be a PlayStation 2 Classic title. If they were going to port games to PS3, why not make a backwards compatibility update!?

When will we be able to play these games on the Vita? I know it can handle it. That would definitely make the game worth purchasing.
