This Week In Mobile 7/26/12

by Ali Rapp on Jul 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM

This week, The Walking Dead, a surfing game by the original creator of Final Fantasy, and games about various big things hit mobile devices.

Party Wave
Mistwalker
iOS
$0.99

Hironobu Sakaguchi, original creator of the Final Fantasy series and surfing fan, served as the director of this game. Players line-draw paths through obstacles in the ocean and then tap characters to switch between them during oncoming waves. The music is simple and relaxed, and the game features at least one character with blonde, spiky hair.

Walking Dead: The Game
Telltale Games
iOS
$4.99

The popular zombie series is coming to iOS as a universal app. The first episode will be titled "A New Day." Telltale Games warns people who might want to play the game out in public that they should use headphones. I'm scared for what this means.

Great Big War Game
Rubicon
Android, iOS
$2.99

The sequel to Great Little War Game, Great Big War Game is a tap and swipe turn-based strategy game with a 50-mission single-player campaign, a pass-and-play option, and an in-game tutorial for those new to the series. The game has also added an online multiplayer option.

Mad Cows
Everplay
iOS
$0.99

Mad Cows is almost unabashedly an Angry Birds clone (its tagline on the app store is "Don't get Angry…get even!"), but offers a fun and interesting multiplayer option that sets the game apart.

Splash !!!
Croissant
iOS
$0.99

Splash !!! is a challenging water physics-based game. Players control a panda who has lost his rubber ducks. The game features 60 levels and a steep learning curve that may turn off more casual players.

The Big Big Castle!
Beep Games
iOS
Free

In The Big Big Castle!, players build ridiculous, structurally unsound structures in order to reach gold coins while avoiding obstacles like cannonballs and explosive building materials. The game also features a destruction mode, which lets players attempt to sabotage the creations of innocent strangers. The game also appears to contain some humorous writing, as well as cute paper cutout-style art.
