This Week In Mobile 7/20/12

by Josh Straub on Jul 20, 2012 at 07:19 AM

This week in mobile we see everything from a kid-friendly puzzle platformer and an app that turns your device into a remote for your Xbox, to an amazing movie tie-in game.

Fieldrunners 2

Developer: Subatomic Studios

Platform: iPhone

Price: $3.99

The sequel to the popular tower defense game was released yesterday and seems to take everything good about the first Fieldrunners and make it better. Subatomic's game (shown above) offers 25 levels of tower defense mayhem, with several different maps, an arsenal of 25 weapons, and hordes of enemies.

Xbox Live App

Developer: Microsoft

Platform: iOS

Price: Free!

Although not a game, the Xbox Live App for the iPad and iPhone turns your device into remote for viewing media on your Xbox 360. It also allows you to interact with your profile. Players who download the free app will be able to add friends and view their 3D avatar and achievements.

Mutant Roadkill

Developer: Glu Mobile

Platform: iPhone and Android

Price: Free!

This post-apocalyptic racer is like Twisted Metal in your pocket. Blast through the wasteland, carving through hordes of mutants in one of several battlewagons complete with powerups and nitro boosts. Compete with your friends on the online leaderboards as you all do your best to reduce the mutant population.

Follow The Rabbit

Developer: Armor Games

Platform: iOS

Price: $0.99

Armor Games is no stranger to making quality mobile titles. Their newest one, Follow The Rabbit is a block-based, puzzle platformer. Your job is simple: Follow the white rabbit. As you maneuver through mazes pushing obstacles aside and evading hazards, you will collect coins in the family-friendly title.

Tom Hanks' Electric City: The Revolt

Developer: Jump Games

Platform: iOS and Android

Price: $0.99

This mobile RPG features isometric-style play in an Orwellian world where you are a member of the resistance. As Frank Deetleman, you will solve puzzles, rescue fellow resistance members, and evade the evil Allied Municipal Police (AMP). The game is based on the animated series, which features the voice of Tom Hanks and promises to pull players deep into the struggles of the Electric City.

The Dark Knight Rises Mobile Game

Developer: Gameloft

Platform: iOS and Android

Price: $6.99

This movie tie-in game for iOS and Android looks amazing. From the look of the game it features the best graphics I've seen on a mobile device along with some pretty intense, Arkham City-style combat. The game is open world with random events and item pickups that unlock upgrades for Batman. Oh, and did I mention there are pilotable vehicles?
