Director Sam Raimi Off World Of Warcraft Film

It looks like director Sam Raimi won't be making the World of Warcraft film due to his scheduling with another movie.

Talking to CraveOnline Raimi said, "Actually, they don't have me directing World of Warcraft anymore because when I took the Oz job [Oz: The Great And Powerful], they had to move on to another director. They had to start making it."

Raimi's last comment might indicate that the movie has or will start production soon, so perhaps all is not lost.

  • But the question still remains...why even bother?
  • Why...? How...?

  • How the heck would you make a movie out of an MMO? It will probaly end up having nothing to do with the game besides it taking place in Azeroth.
  • I hope this doesn't get lost in development hell, this could be so good. I'd love to see them focus on events of WC3, but I'd really be open to anything from the universe.

  • If they did a good Wrath of the Lich King story line it could be not terrible. They have a lot to work with lore wise with anything they do but Wrath just seems more straight forward.

  • They've been talking about this for a long time, but I won't believe a bit of it until there's some actual solid evidence. I'd be more interested to know if this was going the CGI route like Final Fantasy or the route of Prince of Persia.
  • For some reason, I imagine this looking like James Cameron's Avatar, visually.
  • gay
  • Well let's see about possible main characters: Thrall: Former Warchief now a whiny shaman Jaina: Barely mentioned since Warcraft III Arthas: Became Lich King and died Malfurian: A strange half-bird man who's been asleep for a while Tyrande: Married Malfurian Main Antagonists? Illidan: Dead Lich King: Dead Deathwing: Dead Kil-Jaedan: Dead Archimonde: Dead Kael-thas: Dead All of the main characters from the original Warcraft games are either dead or lame. All of the main antagonists are already dead. This movie's gonna suck.
  • Good, Raimi can do better then this. I hope this movie is exactly like that Dungeons and Dragons movie with Marlon Wayans. In fact I hope they just rerelease that movie and only change the title to WOW: this movie sucks!
  • This will definitely rock. Movies based on video games always do :P
  • This World of Warcraft movie might be the only time that I actually get into the WoW-verse. But I still might not be able to handle the shame of going to see a movie based off of a video game. And an MMO at that. Give me documentaries like Indie Game: The Movie instead of this. What has Raimi actually done, by the way.
  • I wonder what game it would be based off of.  There are quite a few, including the MMO.

  • A wow movie eh? Wonder if the gold farmers will infiltrate this, they have everywhere else..lol

  • Hollywood should seriously stop making game base movies cause they never turn out well when its in the hands of an idiot. Naughty Dog stop the making of Uncharted movie since they know it may come out bad and for Ubisoft they just created their own film studio so we know the Assassin's Creed movie is in not only in good hands but in the right ones. Who know the AC universe more better then the company who created it :)
  • It's sad how un-surprised I am.

At this point I will never believe a video-game movie is being made until I see a full trailer of one.  We need to stop thinking that because a director gets attached to a video-game movie that its "being made", because it usually wont happen.  It gets shot down eventually.

  • Whatever the status of the movie is let's just hope Sam Raimi isn't replaced with Uwe Boll.
  • Too bad. I didn't think Sam Riami did bad with the Spider-Man films. In fact, Riami had some interesting ideas for the WoW movie. It could have been good. Oh well, just hope another good director is found.

  • Well, at least we know he's no longer doing Spider-Man 4... ;-)
