Electronic Arts Passed On Reckoning 2 Despite Publicly Claiming Interest

According to a source from the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning development team, Electronic Arts passed on a sequel back in March.

Frank Gibeau President of EA labels recently told Game Informer, "We'd love to be a partner for that," when asked about the likelihood of a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Despite claiming interest in creating a sequel our source with the development team said, "[Electronic Arts] had first right of refusal and passed back in March."

  • F*ck EA man
  • This game was great, and every article I read about it on GI crushes my dreams of a sequel that much more

  • EA being evil. Nothing new here
  • Ah, that sucks.  Yeah, they had a real interest all right...

Gotta be 800 shooters to get to first, I'm sure.

  • Dumb decision.

  • Some men just want to watch the world burn
  • Ugh :(

  • BOOOOOOO!!!  I loved that game. Someone pick it and make more....

  • My EA hatred just grew as much as the Grinch's heart.

EDIT: I hope Bethesda buys the rights, but doesn't give it to BGS. The game isn't like normal BGS games, so it wouldn't work, but reform Big Huge, get some of the old staff in, and make the game. Never going to happen though.
  • i read this news on IGN an hour ago. haha. weird.

also, im two hours in KoA and LOVING it. not sure what it is, but this game has something.

edit: its funny bc they quoted GI.
  • Bummer. Series has a lot of potential.
  • What the f*ck EA, just what the f*ck...
  • Wait, this is toying with my emotions. Is... Is there some hope that the sequel will be released?
  • This game was really great, too bad it sold for ***.
  • EA, stop playing with me like this! KoA was a great game - needed a few refinements, sure, but for a brand new IP, it was actually amazing. Now... Are you, or aren't you, going to green-light a sequel? WHICH IS IT!?
  • Man, what a jerk move.
  • Does this really suprise anyone. The first one was a major loss for EA, so much so that the company that made it was unable to play their bills and went under. So why would EA make another KoA after the first was such a large flop?

Almost everyone here is blaming EA for KoA. When they should be blaming the consumers. Its not EA's fault that not enough people bought it to be profitable its the consumers. So if you are going to blame someone for no KoA 2 blame the people that did not buy it, not the company that lot a large amount of money for a failed game.
  • I wonder if EA passed on the direct sequel to Reckoning or if they passed on the idea of publishing the second game in the KoA universe.  A game the developers publicly said would be MMO.  If it's the latter, then I'm not as upset by EA's decision.

  • EA scumming, what else is new...
  • This sucks, but at the same time, I can't blame EA. The first game didn't even come close to breaking even according to most reports I've read. The fact that they were trying to work on an MMO at the same time wouldn't have helped matters any. Sad to see this IP die so quickly, as the first was a good game, but business is business.
