Lego Batman 2 Leads June U.S. Sales

U.S. video game retail sales for June saw a year-over-year decline of 30 percent, according to retail tracking firm NPD. Total sales declined from $989.5MM to $699.8MM. The biggest decline came from hardware, which dropped 45 percent. Xbox 360 led hardware sales for the month with 257,000 units sold.

“These sales figures represent new physical retail sales of hardware, software and accessories, which account for roughly 50-60 percent of the total consumer spend on games," comment NPD analyst Anita Frazier. "When you consider our preliminary estimate for other physical format sales such as used and rentals at $170MM, and our estimate for digital format sales including full game and add-on content downloads including microtransactions, subscriptions, mobile apps and the consumer spend on social network games at $491MM, we would estimate the total consumer spend in June to be $1.36B.

"Our final assessment of the consumer spend on these areas outside of new physical retail sales will be reported in September in our Q2 Games Market Dynamics:  U.S. report.”

For software, Warner Bros.' Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes sold 450,000 total across seven platforms, the most of any game. "Batman may be on consumer’s minds with Batman: Arkham City also ranking sixth, and with the latest movie, Dark Knight Rises, debuting later in July," says Frazier. The publisher's other title for June, Lollipop Chainsaw, did not chart in the top 10 and sold 107,200 units total, according to NPD.

Comments
  • LEGO'S 4 EVER!

  • It's so sad that sales seem to be down this much...is it only because MW3 isn't selling as much as BO did over time? (I'm not sure about the sales of MW3, but it's not in the top 10, so it wouldn't seem to be doing as well.)
    And apparently I can't read, it's #8...still, I don't know, they're probably less than BO.
  • Lego Batman > Diablo!
  • It's not like too many games were released.

  • Can't wait 'till we hit September, nothing new has really caught my eye.

  • Batman strikes two places on the top 10, wow he's really on a roll this year!

  • I'm happy to see that people are buying ghost recon, but the game is broken. Its hard to meet up with friends because of the dlc error, host migration is such a mistake, there have been rounds where my xp doesn't save, and i tried to play co-op campaign and it keeps crashing. The game is aged, but it didnt bother me until things like this made me not recommend this game until a patch comes out. What game says it saves and then doesn't save? Ridiculous
  • HAHAHAHA nice one gameinfomer. wait you are serious? A LEGO GAME?
  • That's good, it was a fun game indeed. And a refresher for the LEGO series as well.
  • It deserves it. The game is great.
  • MW3 is still beating out BF3 in sales? Wow... I'm surprised people are still buying a $60 DLC to MW2 as apposed to BF3, which is one of the better shooters to release since BFBC2.
  • It deserves to be the top selling game of last month, seeing as it's a better game than almost anything else in the top 10.
  • Awesome.

  • The reason Lego Batman 2 sold so well was 1. Its Batman!! 2. Its an AMAZING game!! 3. TT Games put the game on ALL platforms. (Activision, EA, and other THIRD PARTY DEVS can learn from this!!!)
  • The only game i bought in June was Lollipop Chainsaw.
  • That's surprising. Well, it's a fun game.

  • Didn't like the lego characters having voices, made the humor drop off imo.

  • just as Adam explained I am surprised that any body able to make $7390 in 4 weeks on the internet. did you read this(Click on menu Home more information) http://goo.gl/T0WXN
