Steam Greenlight Announced

by Jim Reilly on Jul 09, 2012 at 11:09 AM

Valve is turning to the community to help decide what games get released next on Steam.

Steam Greenlight allows developers and publishers to publish information and media about their games as they attempt to convince the community that the games should be released.

“Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn’t fun,” says Anna Sweet at Valve. “Many times opinions vary and our internal jury is hung on a decision. But with the introduction of the Steam Workshop we realized an opportunity to enlist the community's help as we review certain titles and, hopefully, increase the volume and quality of creative submissions.”

Valve says Greenlight serves as a "clearing house for game submissions" and will provide a new level of exposure to games. Steam Greenlight begins August 30, 2012.
