Resident Evil 6 Has 4 Hours Of Cutscenes

Update: Capcom set the following statement to Game Informer:

"While we have not confirmed the final number of cutscenes in the game, the BBFC length also includes death scenes for the six characters in the game, and is not an accurate representation of the actual cinematic cut-scene total, which will be less."

-------------------------------------

The sixth major entry in Capcom's Resident Evil franchise features over four hours of cutscenes, according to a new listing by the British Board of Film Classification.

The rating lists the total runtime of cutscenes at 255 minutes. For comparison, Resident Evil 5 had 65 minutes of cutscenes while Resident Evil 4 had 127 minutes.

Comments
  • Resident Evil is going down the drain.
  • Makes me wonder if it will be on one disc...
  • Is that good or bad?

  • Ugg... I hope they don't make this game just soggy with cut-scenes.  Stopping the action in it's tracks was a mistake made by many MGS games.  A cut-scene ever 30 seconds got to be a major blemish on an otherwise perfect series.

  • Awesome!

  • this explains a lot actually, because re5 is only half as good as re4, which means that re6 is going to be at least twice as good as re4.

  • Amazing. So, literally... two movies in one video game, including all the time playing the game. This is looking to be amazing, but I can't help but say... Resident Gear Solid 4
  • I'm happy to hear this. I've always been fascinated by the Resident Evil storyline -- even if it's a little absurd, I've always gotten absorbed in the stories for these games.

And I don't think that these means you're going to be watching all 4 hours of these cutscenes. You know why? Quick time events!

  • I'm so sick of cutscenes being something viewed as a good part of video games. They're a novelty I don't think I can put up with for that many hours. It won't prevent me from playing them, but I can't help but wish there was an alternative. Anybody remember Half Life 2? I was blown away- there were exposition scenes that functioned as cutscenes, but you weren't watching them... you were PLAYING them. With technology where it is, cutscenes should be fading out, not increasing in length. That's not to say cutscenes are bad; they serve an essential role in certain games, and I really like when they are done well, but mainly when they last between 30 seconds and 2 minutes at most. I don't want to watch multiple 5 minute cutscenes in my games, they take away from time where I get to play, and make me watch something that often isn't all that great. Essentially my point is this: Cutscenes can be good, but the number of hours of cutscenes in a game should not be something developers tout as a positive selling point. It's like bragging that you have the best box art. Those things are nice additions that contribute zero to my desire to purchase a game.
  • 4 hours? Damn, that's a lot. I love cutscenes, but they should let you skip them when you're on a second playthrough.
  • Lol and MGS4 had what like 10 hrs of scenes it seemed

  • I'm on board with the "This is bad" camp. Let's face it folks, your average game these days is 10-15 hours long. I don't have enough faith in developers to take this as 10+15 hours PLUS 4 hours of cutscenes. I take this as 10-15 hours, minus 4 hours of cutscenes.

I dunno, I just hear "LOOK AT OUR CUTSCENES" as "please dont look at the gameplay." back in the day when movie quality cutscenes were new, we ate it up. Devs need to know that this isnt what we're after so much anymore, as a general audience.

Oh, and before anyone strikes back with the whole "well thats just YOUR opinion" thing, I think we can tally up comments and see who the majority is.
  • Seems a bit excessive to me.

  • ok so how much gameplay does it have?

  • "Meh, it only has FOUR hours of cutscenes. What a joke! How could you possibly try to make such a convoluted story line vaguely understandable with only four hours of cutscenes."

     -Hideo Kojima

  • Soooo... they're creating some mutant cross-breed from both the game and film products of the franchise?

    Quelle horreur!!!

  • RE4 had 127 minutes of cutscenes? I don't remember it being (or feeling) nearly that long.
  • RE4 has 2 hours of cutscenes?! Doesn't feel like it haha

  • YES! THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! STORY!

(though if they are unskippable I will be a little irked)

  • I love all the cut-scenes from waaaay back to like THE ORIGINAL. So if this game has over 4 hours of cut-scenes, I am suuuuper excited to sit and watch and totally enjoy every minute of it, and PLUS the gameplay will be amazing!! :D Yay!
