Rumor: Halo 2 Anniversary Edition May Be In Development

Update: Halo series developer 343 Industries has reportedly denied that a Halo 2 Anniversary Edition is currently in the works.

The developer reportedly quashed the rumor via an internal company resource for retailers called Microsoft ExpertZone. "We are not working on that at this time. We are kind of busy," said an unidentified 343 representative.

Original Story: According to the rumor section of the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, a remake of Halo 2 is currently in development at 343 Industries.

According to the magazine, "Following the success of remake Halo Anniversary, 343 Industries has now started development of Halo 2 Anniversary." There is no real evidence or sources to substantiate the claim, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Halo 2 get a high-definition remake. Maybe a remake could afford Halo 2 the opportunity to have a real ending.

  • Halo 2 maps were easily the best of the series

  • duh, watch the unlocked terminal from halo CEA it links to halo 2!

  • Not to much of a surprise. It is not that much different than the PS2 remakes fro PS3. But I guess the 360 has better support for backwards compatibility than PS3. I think I just contradicted myself. I don't know where I am...
  • I've been wanting this ever since I picked up Halo Anniversary and enjoyed it alot.

  • I would love an HD remake of my favorite Halo! HELL YEAH!

  • All they're just doing is remaking ***! Not worth it.
  • I don't care about the campaign, I just want the multiplayer - or at least all of the maps from Halo 2 added to Halo 4. Halo 2 has my favorite multiplayer ever.
  • I never got to play halo 2 multiplayer online, so this would be amazing! Halo 2 is also my favorite Halo game

  • the likelyhood of this seems pretty possible. I would buy this over the first halo remake. They just need to bring the multiplayer of Halo 2 in remastered glory in order to make me consider buying this.

  • I anticipate a 2013 release for Halo 2 Anniversary using the multiplayer from Halo 4 with some small changes. Can't wait!
  • I don't see why microsoft can't just put a few servers up and reopen Halo 2's Live. That would be better than having to buy a whole new game. On the point of a "real ending" it all ready has one, it's a little game called Halo 3.

  • Here's what they should do with the Halo series in my opinion. Release an individual game with multiplayer only. Multiplayer from all the Halos in one package... where you can switch between Reach, CE, Halo 3 and Halo 2 like they are different lobbies. This would solve A LOT OF PROBLEMS. Many Halo gamers won't play the old games (even though most Halo fans prefer them) simply because they are outdated and most of their friends don't even have the game anymore. With a HALO ONLINE game, everything will be on one disc. People can play the Halo experience that they truly love. MLG can bring back Halo 2 & 3. Newer fans can play Reach and Halo 4. You can play whatever you love, and you can buy the new multiplayers (Halo 5 & 6 ) as they come out. If marketing correctly, it could produce similar or greater sales than the formula that they have now. Anyone else think this idea would work? ..COD could also use this treatment.
  • This should happen. And no, it won't have Halo 2's multiplayer. That'll never happen, as they said with Halo: CE. It's an issue with the netcode not being compatible and having to redo everything precisely as it was would be a seriously daunting task, on that people would pick apart and complain about forever.

Halo 4's multiplayer looks great. If they built it flexible enough to modify weapon damage, turn on dual weilding, turn off armor effects, etc., then they could just make a Halo 2 Anniversary playlist set with offering variants in each and just have it run on Halo 4's multiplayer. That would be okay will me, so long as all the original Halo 2 maps are remade along with it, for the complete Halo 2 experience. Anything less would be uncivilized (lol).

  • Nice, very nice.

  • awwww man that would be sooooo bada$$!!! I've never played number 2, just 1,3 and Reach. I really hope this is true, because I want to play 2 so bad.
  • The only reason I would get it is if it had a really great multiplayer systems, such as maps and all that. Otherwise, I just don't see this working out very well.

  • Great for xbox users. I hope they add something new to the multiplayer though. I cant stand the same one from reach.

  • This has to be true!!!!!!Please.....

  • What was so special about the multi-player(this is a legitimate question, not a stab at HALO 2)?
  • that would be pretty cool
