The lights are on
Sony announced it entered into an agreement to acquire cloud-based gaming company Gaikai Inc. for $380 million.
"By combining Gaikai’s resources including its technological strength and engineering talent with SCE’s extensive game platform knowledge and experience, SCE will provide users with unparalleled cloud entertainment experiences,” said Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
“SCE will deliver a world-class cloud-streaming service that allows users to instantly enjoy a broad array of content ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content anytime, anywhere on a variety of internet-connected devices.”
Gaikai was founded in 2008. How the service will be integrated into PlayStation Network and other applications in the future were not revealed at this time.
Nice, I'm excited to see how this works, but I hope it can be more polished and usable then the current state of Cloud gaming.
Well played Sony.
good move for sony
Freaking awesome... I am pumped to see what's going to happening in the next few years!! :)
I'm not into game streaming. I'd really prefer to own my own copy of the game, or at least buy and download off of PSN store or something.
nice move Sony.
Although I really hope this doesn't mean anything bad for hard copy games, I'm happy to see Sony moving forward. Good stuff.
Lets see if Sony actually has plans to use and improve this service, or if they just sit on it and do nothing.
I still want my discs. ;_;
Wow i hope all that money pays off for them.
