Funcom Doing Lego Minifigures MMO

The Secret World developer Funcom has announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Lego for an MMO based on the Lego Minifigures line.

No details or release date has been given for the project, but the developer says the game will be aimed at the entire family.

Said Funcom CEO Trong Arne Aas: "The market for family-friendly online experiences intended for children and youngsters is brimming with potential. Being able to work with a world-renowned brand such as the Lego brand to develop an MMO for this audience is incredibly exciting to us as game developers and for Funcom as a company. This is source material we all know and love, and we simply cannot wait to get started working with the Lego Group on realizing this exciting project."

  • uhm...didn't we try this already?

  • A Lego MMO... Again?

  • I tried the original LEGO mmo. It was good actually. Active combat, colorful and large areas that are explorable. Good amount of content. Good homebuilding. Sad it failed.

  • fun stuff

  • At least they have a good MMO dev behind this one.
  • All aboard the fail boat!
  • I see it as, it isn't that the games are bad, but it is lack of players.

  • lego has just shown it's true colors. less than a year after laying off 150 people worldwide they do this garbage? lego, you are not family friendly. you have destroyed lives and made people suffer when you fired the hardworking and talented people at Play Well studios...your OWN gd studio. you are a soulless corporation who is only concerned about money. seriously...to all the out of touch, coke snorting suits you have now. burn in hell.
  • I mean i love Lego, I pretty much have all the Lego games, but after the destruction of Lego universe(which wasn't bad, but didn't have enough players) I'm shocked that theya re trying this? specially considering how short the minifigure line is.... I mean I want to play as something I can customize if it's lego, not just a random minifigure. Though I guess it really isn't aimed at me..

  • I didn't feel like having to pay for the first one, and that's why I never owned one.

  • Seems like it might be weird with these somewhat generic Legos. Well I guess they can't use Warner Bros licenses forever.

  • "Fun for all ages" really means great fun for kids and hardly any fun for adults.  Skip.

  • I'm excited lego universe was so awesome and now its gone so im down with another lego MMO.

  • I'm done with Lego MMOs. Lego City: Undercover's my only true Lego gaming hope for this year.

  • The only way I can honestly see this succeeding is by porting it to the consoles. I think a Lego MMO would be a perfect fit for console that are in desperate need of MMO's. And before anyone jumps on the "mmo's can't work on consoles because of *blank*" I understand the hurtles faced but I also know that PS3 has a few already and Xbox came close with Champions.
