Nintendo 3DS XL Announced

Nintendo revealed the 3DS XL, a revision of the original 3DS handheld that boasts a 90 percent extra viewing area.

The top screen measures 4.88 inches and the lower screen is now 4.18 inches. It also offers longer battery life. The memory card is also being increased to 4 GB. The 3DS XL will include an AC adapter in North American but not in Japan. It will have to be purchased separately, but you can still use other adapters from other Nintendo devices.

The new handheld is coming in Black, Black x Blue, and Black x Red on August 19 in North America for $199. It releases on July 28 in Japan and Europe.

Correction: Nintendo of America confirmed the 3DS XL includes an AC Adapter. The story was updated.

  • Whoops, there it is!  What a shock!  Nintendo to the rescue again!

Seriously, I'm getting sick of this industry.  From now on, I'll support nothing.  I'll act as cheap as I should.  I'll wait on every second edition and every GOTY pack.

    Nintendo, screw your Ambassador program.

  • Been waiting for this.

  • Hope somewhere will give me a good trade in for my 3DS haha cause i really want this. Sad about the lack of a second pad tho, oh well.

  • this is nintendo bs marketing..make a console full of issues and imperfect, then 6 months to a year later re-release the same thing with a new name and stuffs that should have been there since day 1 and charge more....bogus and dumb!
  • WoW didnt see that coming..

  • I'm surprised they didn't add another circle pad.

  • ... ... First off, the big one, no second circle pad? I mean, come on. That should have just been the first thing they thought of. Second, why wasn't this just announced at E3? It makes no sense being announced now. And third, it looks awful. Just the design of it, it doesn't look as crisp as the other model.

  • wait, no friggin adapter?, how will people charge it?, why would people want to buy a adapter when it could just come with the 3ds??

  • I may be wrong about this but didn't Nintendo say they weren't going to release another version of the 3DS? Also, why didn't Nintendo add another Circle Pad to the 3DS XL? Well, I'm going to say it now that another model of the 3DS will coming soon after this with the inclusion of a second Circle Pad. 3DSi XL, anyone?
  • I dont like how it looks. Than again I didnt like the ds XL so it dosnt really matter. But come on Nintendo release a White in the States!

  • No second circle pad? ..................................................................*sobs*

  • I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS. I *** CALLED THIS HAPPENING LMAO

  • If they're redesigning, why not add the second circle pad?
  • Really glad I held off on buying a 3DS until now, I knew this was gonna happen.

  • Nintendo can **** ***. *****. *** ***** with ***** and two *****-*****. I just bought a **** 3DS...Now..New One! Trolololo.
  • well, it looks pretty cool and all, but there's nothing really...new

  • wow sucks for Vita. i mean Nintendo makes sure sony doesn't get any fire lol. So to squash the "newest handheld on the block" swag that Vita has they just release a new 3ds, wow the next year at that. the DS had thet XL come out like what 5 years after releasing it smh......so yeah I doubt this will hurt regular 3ds sells but this will make Vita seem like it's not the new kid on the block so it will hurt Vita in a way. some people like big screens so I could see them getting this over the $250 vita.......c'mon sony

  • Yeah pretty peeved there isn't a second circle pad included in this version, that's all I'm waiting for before I purchase a 3DS so i can play me some resident evil.

  • How original. A handheld in black. or black with color accents.

  • I hope the graphics don't suck. They could be cheap and not change the pixel size for 2-D and 3-D.
