Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced Namco Bandai Games is leading development on the Super Smash Bros. title for Wii U and 3DS.

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros series, is heading the project from his Sora Ltd. studio. Masaya Kobayashi (Ridge Racer) and Yoshito Higuchi (Tales series) from Namco Bandai will oversee the game as well.

  • Well... There goes ALL excitement for this game
  • I hope they make it for Xbox.....
  • This is intersting. If this game has a character that's my favorite. Some of you people already know what character I want.

    So take a guess.

    Edit: It's Sonic.
  • Don't know why people are so worried, Namco Bandai is one of the few developers/publishers that Nintendo works with in this way. It shows they trust them. And unlike some of their other Nintendo IP games, this one will be lead by the actual creator of the series. Since as far as Action-RPGs go, the Tales franchise has the closest combat to the Smash Bros series, so this bodes well as well.

  • They still need like five years in order to make this.

  • how come it has to be Wii U?????????????????? it's just a new controller!
  • Ridge Racer guy is on it too? AHAHAHAHA it's Riiiiiiidge Racer!!!

  • If they don't include Mr. Game and Watch I will not buy this game.
  • I'm in despair! The bashing of a game before footage has been shown has left me in despair!

  • well, Namco Bandai has a lot of experience making great fighting games with the Tekken franchise, and Masahiro Sakurai is still at the helm of the project, so it's all good. this just means we'll also be seeing a few Tekken characters in the next Smash, which will be awesome.

  • Just give me functional online Nintendo with multiple modes, no bare-bones non-functional garbage like the last go-round!!!

  • OMG ITS OVER 9000 HELL YEA ITS GONNA BE A BAD@$$ GAME CANT WAIT FOR IT

  • Time for the SSB wish list. Excluding regulars of course.

  • Also. I hope City Escape is in the new Smash Bros.

  • WHY?!!!! Didn't they do enough damage when they ruined Tekken?

  • Well this is so not good news. When the name HAL Laboratory banished from developing credits, Smash Bros. lost the dynamic magic that rocked in the N64 and GCN. Namco Bandai games feel heavier and less interesting compared to Smash Bros.

Still, with Nintendo heading the way this may not be so bad, still, I'm not sold into the fact it'll be a good thing.

  • Well, don't really know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but hey, as long as they make it as good and as fun as the previous 3, then I'm not bothered.

  • Yes, theirmaking more the other three were really good.

I wonder how the online gameplay will be like?

  • I'm glad there is more info on the game, I don't like this

  • I really hope they dont mess this up.  Im a little nervous.  SSB is my favorite series and if this game is bad the long wait between entries will be excruciatingly long
