The lights are on
In a fan-fueled vote that came down to less than a one-percent margin (no video review from Toronto?!), Flyers' sensation Claude Giroux has won the honor to become the NHL 13 cover star.
26 million votes were cast in the cover campaign, and Giroux was announced last night at the annual NHL awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
Giroux's play on the ice certainly qualifies him as a cover star, as he was third in the league in points with 93 (28 goals and 65 assists). He also notched eight goals in 10 playoff games in the Flyers' shortened playoff campaign.
"The support fans have given me throughout the campaign has been unbelievable,” said Giroux. “I am very excited to be on the cover of NHL 13, and I want to thank everyone who campaigned and voted for me – especially my teammates, the Flyers organization, and of course all the NHL fans who voted and tweeted."
NHL 13 comes out for PS3 and Xbox 360 on Sept. 11, and you can read my hands-on impressions from E3 in this preview.
Take a look at a trailer featuring Giroux after the jump.

Should have been Kopitar or Dustin Brown.
should have been Kopi!!!
cool
How it wasn't Datsyuk still baffles me. Anytime I've ever looked up anything about this most people were talking about Datsyuk. I thought it was a sure thing. Must blame fan voting.
Being able to vote multiple times kind of ruins the voting system but definitely not the worst pick.
well deserved after the season he had! G!
That's cool, I suppose. I'm more of a Penguins fan, but my brother is a die hard Flyers fan so I assume he's happy.
As a Pens fan, I would've preferred that someone like Malkin won, but I suppose Giroux isn't the worst pick. After all, it could have been one of the Capitals. XD
