THQ Folding Enter The Dominatrix Content Into Saints Row Sequel

Players who have been looking to fire up Saints Row: The Third again with new DLC this summer should probably sit down for this news. THQ has announced that the Enter the Dominatrix content, which was announced as a $29.99 expansion, has been folded into development of the next Saints Row game.

"When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise,” says Jason Rubin, THQ’s President. “I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.”

There aren't many details regarding the upcoming game, aside from the vague 2013 release timeline and its tentative title, The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise. Volition is undoubtedly excited about this content, which includes Matrix-like superpowers. We wouldn't be surprised if Rubin ultimately pushed development in this direction to focus the studio's efforts on a full-on sequel instead of devoting staff on DLC for a game that released in November, 2011.

THQ announced that this decision didn't come without a cost. With the cancellation of the $29.99 DLC, the company says its fiscal 2013 outlook has been reduced by $20 million.

  • That is awesome news. I loved saints row 3 so hopefully the next is just as ridiculous. Seems like things are looking ok for THQ at the moment
  • That's pretty interesting. I wonder if they'll even be able to last as long as 2013 for them to release a new game.
  • HOLY *** AWESOME
  • This certainly sounds like a risk. I hope it pays off for them in the end.

  • They know if they keep pushing out Saint's Row they can stay afloat. Best of luck to THQ, they are a great company who has published some awesome games. I think if they don't pull themselves out of the slump they maybe looking at being bought by someone like EA for their talent and IPs.
  • Dear THQ

Team up with the crew from Jackass, Jon Lajoie and Adult Swim and make the most absurd game you can. This is not a game a game for children so push the limits. We want MK fatalities, aliens, bigfoot, a story that takes itself serious but makes fun of itself, I want to take a drug that makes me run faster (not for kids so who cares?) I want a D*ildo that shoots fire and flesh eating crabs, I want to learn Kung Fu moves,Godzilla, Make fun of other games, cameos from other video game characters, Gary Busey, Charlie Sheen I want the ability to fart poison gas darts and lightning. I want the ability to literally piss on my enemies as a taunt, I want to turn into a telepathic and use it to throw cars into people.

You know what? Just hire me to make your next game.

  • This strikes me as a bad idea. Lowering your fiscal outlook when you need to generate excitement from investors is not a smart move. It also tells me that they're trying to rush Saints Row 4 out the door as fast as they can, which might not bode well for quality.
  • I'm not against the game being over-the-top, but please let the main character more of a *** and less of an idiot that just rushes in with guns. Hopefully the next SR game innovates itself more and improve the coop play, which i believe to be the essence of the franchise. The same on rail shoot incoming cars mechanics need to be revamped, and the escort missions remastered. I don't want my buddy to snipe beside me, I want one of us in the chaos and the other providing over watch. The game should be designed with coop in mind, and have NPC AI competent enough to survive. Simply adding on another player in coop just doesn't cut it for me.
  • Would have been fun to go back and mess around in Steelport again with something new, but at least the next installment is going to have even more content packed into now (I guess?).

  • I read this headline as "THQ is folding", as in calling it quits. Glad it's better news than that, just hope they can hold out till 2013.

  • despite the disappointment that SR3 fans won't be getting more DLC this is actually great news because it means fans will get another amazing Saints Row game!!

  • Who cares if the DLC is cancelled?  A new Saint's Row is even better!

  • Excellent

  • intresting news  we'll have to wait to see how it turns out tho

  • Saints Row The Third, while very fun, had only about half or less of the content Saints Row 2 had. Most of the single player missions were just Activities disguised as story missions. The main missions can be blown through in about 4 hours. The side missions, which are just boring activities, only take another 4. If they are going to ditch that DLC and instead try and stretch it out into a full sequel, it better not be another short as hell "open world" game. I'm not interested if that's what it will be.
  • I'm okay with this news. I hope it pans out for THQ.

  • The only reason I'm not ok with this is because this means that Saints Row 3 doesn't have any even half decent DLC.
