Rumored Mortal Kombat Film Reboot To Tell The Story Of A Supermarket Clerk

If rumors are to be believed, an upcoming Mortal Kombat live-action reboot could be following the exploits of a supermarket employee who finds out he has super powers.

The rumor comes from website BloodyDisgusting.com, which says that the movie will be directed by Kevin Tancharoen, director of the recent Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short and the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.

Bloody Disgusting is saying, "The live-action reboot will follow a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is."

I haven't played a lot of Mortal Kombat, admittedly, but I don't remember any of the fighters being supermarket employees. Mostly I remember the fighters of Mortal Kombat being monsters, ninjas, or cyborgs. I think there was a police officer at one time. Maybe it's him. Maybe he's the supermarket employee.

  • Great...
  • This is the last thing I'm seeing before I go to sleep. I'll need to ruminate on whatever dreams come out of this before I know how confusing this truly is to me.
  • What was wrong with the way the web series started out?
  • How do you find out you have superpowers that late into life?
  • This is just a rumor, and kinda a funny one actually I must say. I think the idea of a good video game possibly going into the dumps is not really surprising news. Here is to hoping..

haha I can't let it go but this whole idea sounds like a comedy
  • Oh God. It pains me to even read this.

  • Sounds absurd enough to fit into the MK Universe :p
  • It better have Reptile, that's all I care about.
  • I won the lottery, flew on a real dragon, and met Jesus this morning....and this news still ruined my whole day. Hopefully this dies as a rumor.
  • This move would make absolutely no sense. Especially with Tancharoen heading the reboot. His webseries was also incredibely faithful to the source material and that's what made it great. Super powers sounds just dumb and out of sync with everything MK is. However even if this is true it could easily be misscomunication. MK has seen powers obviously, but often its more a magic, mythical type. I seriously can't judge without seeing or knowing more, but signs currently pointing to "WTF you thinking?!"
  • I kinda want to see this.
  • And then Shia Lebeouf will end up playing him and then it'll end up as direct-to-video and then we'll all become disinterested and give up on Mortal Kombat movies.

  • Wait, the awesome directer of the Mortal Kombat web series also ended up making a glee movie? My mind cant comprehend how that happens... Oh, and the worst idea for a movie of the day award goes to capcom. I wanna see the characters i know, thats what makes it mortal kombat and not combat... i feel like they would clash with any semi-realistic backdrop.
  • What the hell? What happened to the awesome, semi-realistic tone of the Rebirth short? Go with that theme. It set things up nicely and included or referenced eight characters in 10 minutes. That was a great way to get the story up and running in a short time. What does a supermarket clerk have to do with anything? The only way I see that working is if it's Raiden again, like how he ended up in the body of an inmate in an asylum in Legacy. But that's been done so it doesn't work either!

  • YES!!!!! FINALLY A SEQUEL TO ARMY OF DARKNESS!!!! That movie ended on such a cliff hanger....
  •  And so the game to movie curse continues........

  • if this is true.....then all is lost

  • I'm not sure whether to laugh at the absurdity of this, or cry at the sheer silliness of this.

  • i didnt like the movies but i ennjoyed legacy

  • Well, this is moronic.
