Rumor: Microsoft Document Details Xbox 720

The document uncovered a few months ago dates back to 2010, and shows Blu-ray compatibility, augmented reality glasses, a new Kinect, and a 2013 release window. It also shows a $299.99 price point.

The document also references Microsoft's Smart Glass, which was detailed this year at E3. Seeing Smart Glass in the PDF certainly lends some credibility to the document, but that doesn't mean it isn't a fake. Microsoft also could have abandoned the plans detailed here in the two years since it was created.

  • The thought of a new console is great but I think there is alot of life left in the current gen yet. I think they should push it back another year at least. They are just getting to the point where they are utilizing the full potential of the ps3 and 360 and producing some great games. Let me enjoy this for another couple of years before facing the decision to plop down hundreds of $ on a brand new console.
  • Seems plausible. I don't see how XBOX 720 doesn't work as a name.

  • Very hard to get excited about next gen consoles when this all could be a fake.. Why can't they just tell us? So we can save up to get it or not buy so many current gen games if next gen ones are just around the corner.
  • I'd be willing to bet my left testicle that this will turn out to be true.

  • Very few people will bother using the "Smart Glasses"; they are as much "Fail" as the Sony 3D display, which required people use 3D glasses for the display effect.  If they had a built in alteration effect instead of a glasses peripheral effect, like the 3DS I think people would be more impressed and willing to call that "something cool".   Also, Sony has copyright on Blu-ray technology; it would be like raising the White Flag to Sony if the new Xbox used Blu-ray (as much as that would cut down on the amount of discs per game and save "disc-life"). Of course, it wouldn't be something they would not think about, but they would have to push another Halo title to really gain the console sale needed to ignore that minor issue (and a high-steady sale for continued use of Blu-ray for the console); so it might start that way and get dropped.  Also, with all the rumors, the backwards compatibility is likely be dropped; however, this hasn't been much of concern as most people jumped into the Xbox "bandwagon" with 360, and are plenty use to digital content ideology.  Still, however, I'm curious if the GamerTag will still be able to be transferred or if they are going a different route. Considering Xbox, the $299 price tag may actually be accurate, for the cheap model of the system; however, the largest GB version will be $399+.  Also, the 2013 confirmation date was delayed as mentioned multiple times, and as the June 2012 edition of GameInformer notes with the Unreal 4 Engine: it won't likely come out in 2013 and has alot of catching up with PC to do (which PCs have largely advanced beyond the consoles, especially when it comes to graphics and processing).  The PS4 and Xbox 720 won't either come until summer 2014 or sometime in 2015 realistically speaking. Also, there are already Xbox 360 and PS3 titles lined-up for release throughout Spring to Winter of 2013, so unless they want to confuse game developers and publishers I don't think they will be releasing a new Xbox nor a new PS3 anytime soon.  PS. I saw the trailer for Agni's Philosophy: Final Fantasy; the graphics really aren't that significantly different than the graphics of the Kara (Quantic Dream) tech demo which displayed potentiality of the hardware advances in the PS3; until I see game-play, instead of cut-scene graphics I cannot say trailers of the "new-gen" consoles are really that amazing- they can get better hardware and tweak things more for the time being.

  • Please please please please please PLEEEEEEASE let this still use a normal controller.

  • Hmmmm... does any of this realy sound exciting to anyone here? If this is the best the future has to offer, I'm really disappointed.
  • Okay, second thoughts. It looks like Microsoft is taking a cautious evolutionary approach, rather than going for a revolution. It's clear that they believe the Kinect 2 will be a big part of their future. They have an awful lot riding on that. Also Windows 8. That is their other ace in the hole (at least they hope). But a lot of that depends on how well they've handled development of the new Windows platform. With Microsoft, it's always hit and miss. They are a very ambitious company, but they're ability to deliver what they claim isn't always there. So, I think the big takeaway is that delivering everything in that document is going to be a very tall order for Microsoft. It's going to demand a lot of resources, and there will be no room for screw-ups like the red-ring/overheating fiasco of this generation. Notice they want the Xbox 720 to be "green" and silent? It BETTER be. And they know it. This is a good leak though. I'm surprised Microsoft didn't file an injunction to prevent it from being published by any media source.
  • Haha, fake or not... that's cool

  • [insert random *** comment about how much of a sony fanboy I am and about how *** microsoft is]

  • The 299$ is how much it will cost them to manufacture it not how mich they will sell it for so just double 299$ and ur looking at a 600$ console

  • This would be cool if it was real but for something like this I expect at least another generation in between

  • Wow, two years ago? I guarantee most of this has changed. And the PS3 already has a lot of this stuff.
  • I read this, peaked my interest. I also wonder if it's a fake or actual truth. Some of the designs and additions seem pretty cool, especially at a $299 price point.

  • Please just let kinect go.

  • I am going to call fake on this, mostly because it actually says "Xbox 720" in the document, and there is no way they are actually calling it that. They would have used a codename in it's place.

  • Pretty much confirmed as legitimate by Microsoft's recent statement and takedown of the files (including from Dropbox), although the doc was from 2010. A lot has probably changed.

  • I imagine that even though this is a older copy of the current one this looks like a good plan to me. I want to see how they are going to change up the kinect and its features. They claim that it can transfer 3D but I wonder how they are going to set it all up. Also I would have liked to see a projector attachment for the simple reason that now they can play their Xbox anywhere.

  • The Price tag seems a little Cheap because Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all lose money on every System that sells andRetailers dont make any profit on the new systems because they are forced to sell them at MSRP. But the $299 price tag might be simular to the 4GB Xbox 360s. As for the th Blu-Ray its believable the only reason the Xbox 360 didn't have blu-ray is becuase Sony had an Exclusive on it at the time the Xbox 360's and PS3's were first eing released 6-7 years ago. There is Talk of the next Xbox and Playstation being released in 2014 and there is also talk of them putting a code with every game that is sold that you have to useto even play the game to prevent resell of the games it's lie they do with PC Games. It wouls suck if the do that becuase then you can't take your games to a friends to play or trade the in so It will hurt businesses like GameStop & GameFly.
