MLG's Pro Circuit Sets eSports Record

The 3-day broadcast of the Major League Gaming Spring Championship last weekend boasted 437,000 peak concurrent online viewers and more than 4.7 million unique online viewers, breaking the record for the largest North American eSports event.

More than 20,000 people also showed up in-person to watch as competitors played League of Legends, StarCraft 2, and other games for almost $200,000 in prize money.

  • Cool to see this becoming a real thing.

  • Major League Gaming? Well there's a league for everything else.
  • There's a recent peak of violence between the adolescent owls (know it alls) and the old wise alligators (snap yo' head off foo). It was provoked by a puppy who had too much time on his hands and made trouble. The premise- summer school breaks are evil.
  • Crap, I missed it.

  • I watched most of the SC2 tourney and I've gotta say it was fantastic. All the legendary Brood War players are starting their transition to SC2 as well, and they held a mini-tourney for them which was really fun to watch.

  • I used to watch Halo 3 MLG games and they were actually pretty entertaining.
  • I only caught some of the last day but it was great.  Pretty much every MLG event this year's been a lot of fun to watch.

  • Yay! eSports, keep growing. Getting some coverage on Gameinformer is a great step towards regular gamers discovering your wonders.
  • I gotta get in on this

  • I thought CoD would be their main event.
  • I would love for this to get a lot bigger than it already is!

  • I was there! That MLG was absolutely AMAZING! ***, getting to see the Kespa dream team.. FLASH! and Jaedong.. omg.. omg! Was so great! I'm also happy to see this getting so big! Puts a big ol grin on my face :)
  • I wish it was still on TV.

  • I missed it but I watch the League of Legends matches on YouTube... Just watching these games makes me better... whether its Halo, League, or CoD. If you guys don't play League, you should. Prolly the best free to play game EVAR!! =D

  • Not really a fan of watching but I suppose its a good thing to see.

  • Minority sports FTW!

  • They call it eSports now? I love my video games very dearly but come on, they are not a sport whatsoever.
  • That's cool.

  • What's up with the eSports' game selections. Where's Battlefield?
