Black Ops II Appears On Jimmy Fallon

Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops II was demoed live last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon was joined by Eric Hirshberg, president of Activision Publishing. The demo shows off one of the game's strikeforce missions. Hirshberg also confirmed a zombie mode would be returning for this version.

  • I don't have particularly high hopes for Black Ops 2, but this has been bugging me, and its a legitimate complaint about the "innovations" of BLOPS 2's campaign. So... A major selling point of Black Ops 2's campaign, the branching story paths, non-linearity, the power of choice, yada yada yada, hinges heavily on one key aspect: the storyline must be good. If you're going to put the ability to significantly affect the story in a game, your game better have a damn good story, or it won't matter at all. I can have three million different outcomes for every possible action in my game, but if the player just says "Oh, that guy who yelled story and military jargon at me for the last three hours is dead because of me! Uh, i'm sad, I guess?" or "Yay, that guy who shot some other guys with me is still alive! I saved him! Great, I think." then having choice, while technically altering the story, has no weight to it and is essentially just another metaphorical hallway to walk down. Long story short: For that so-called innovative feature in black ops 2 to work, it must have a good, no, a great story, or it will be utterly meaningless. I hope Black Ops does more than I anticipate (which is to have your standard nonsensical Call of Duty "rah rah America! 'splosions" type storyline) and actually does something with the story, but I doubt it.
  • This is actually not bad. People say it's bad which I agree on the story line, it's really stupid. They still have to admit they will pick up the game and play it. I personally cannot wait for Zombies (campaign) bigger than ever and glad Treyarch is moving up with Call of Duty (even though they wore the crap out of the game.)
