The Half-Life Remake Appears In The Wild With New Screenshots

Black Mesa, the fan created Half-Life remake, is not being created internally at Valve, but it seems to be progressing at the pace of a typical Valve game.

Every few years it seems like we hear a few more tiny morsels about the game. On this occasion we've gotten a handful of screenshots, and a promise of more news to come soon. This is all a product of the Black Mesa Facebook page, which promised, "exciting new media!" when the page hit 20,000 likes, which it reached a few hours ago.

You can find out more about the game by checking out BlackMesaSource.com.

The announcement of new media for the game comes right off the heels of us closing out our Half-Life Super Replay. Coincidence? Yes, it probably is.

  • Interesting amount of Half Life/Valve stories coming out of GI lately.

Someone might get suspicious of such a thing.

Do you know something we don't GI?
  • I know this isn't "gamer" of me, but I haven't finished the first half-life. So hopefully now I can.

  • Watching super replay then I saw this and I nearly swooned.

  • Haven't played half-life, but I feel like I really should. This would be the perfect opportunity.

  • Holy hell, I just finished the original Half-Life and now I want to play it all over again with this remake.

  • This looks amazing..

I wonder when they'll finish the project??

  • Just imagine Dan using the crowbar in this...that would be EPIC!

  • Wow that's so awesome.  Makes me want HL3 even more...

  • i ish

  • This one's been at the back of my head for some time. It's good to see a snapshot of the Vortigaunt slave, given the HL2E2 skin update gives their appearance true justice.

  • So how come there are so many remakes and mods of HF and yet there is not a single source of news for any kind of third game. Valve should hire these fans to create it
  • Hey Game Informer, patience. Fan games and mods take time, if they get finished ever. Even well organized ones are relatively un-organized. Especially compared to being part of a real developer in the same building. People leave and stuff - I had a friend who got a REAL job based on the level work he did for this mod 4 years ago.

This looks rad, by the way. I'd like the chance to play through Half-Life, or at least watch it played through to completion. I can't watch Super Replay - watching Dan play Half Life was f**king annoying. I couldn't go more than one episode. Just sit the f**k still when people are talking; stop jumping around the room and looking around like a spaz. Who does that in a story-based game? Why ignore all the story and setpieces - especially in a Valve game? I'm surprised Ben didn't throw up. "Super annoying" is what they should call those videos instead.
  • WOAH, WOAH, WOAH.

    This project isn't actually dead???

  • I wish this project the best, but it's extremely hard to get excited for something like this. It just seems like it will never be finished, or Valve could possibly beat them to it.

  • Looks good.

  • It's Not A HD version people, if you wanna see the HD version look at this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Gtq6hgzoc (it's amazing & Sexy)
otherwise it's a 80% Remake of the game...
  • I hope he AI improves as well.  The soldiers never use cover and just run straight at you.

  • If ONLY, it were coming out on consoles....

  • Damn that looks awesome!
