Silicon Knights Suffers Layoffs

Silicon Knights said today it has laid off a small number of employees. The studio also denied a rumor it canceled development on the still-unconfirmed Eternal Darkness sequel for the Wii U.

"We are scaling back to a core group and focusing all our efforts on future opportunities," said Denis Dyack, founder and president of Silicon Knights in a statement. "As to the rumor about Nintendo, it is not true and has no basis in fact."

A rumor surfaced on NeoGAF last week that suggested Nintendo had pulled the plug on the heavily rumored Eternal Darkness 2 after Silicon Knights had to shell out $4.5 million plus additional legal fees to Epic Games from the recent lawsuit. Dyack said he plans to appeal the decision, however.

A representative was unable to comment on the number of employees that were affected from the layoffs.

  • For Slant Six now Silicon Knights? That sucks for all those people that got laid off.

  • So... No Eternal Darkness U? :(

  • tough times

  • Ouch. Just seems like there is no end to the layoffs.

  • So they are denying cancellation of an unconfirmed game that may or may not be in development? Someone wanna run that by me again? xD
  • Sure, it's not a good thing but Silicon Knights hasn't made a good game for a very long time.

  • Two big layoffs in one day... Sucks. Man it just sucks.

  • Eternal darkness would save them. But I haven't liked them as much since I heard their stance on used games...but I guess I could try play Xmen destiny, or just save money and borrow too human.............
  • We need a sequel to Eternal Darkness.
  • I'm sure this has nothing to do with their failed lawsuit against Epic Games. Yep...
  • A LOT of layoffs

  • I thought Silicon Knights shut down years ago

  • Who's silicon knights?
  • So let me get this straight: Silicon Knights releases two games that are mediocre at best and gets counter-sued by Epic Games, and they get bailed by their government and suffer layoffs. Meanwhile, 38 Studios releases ONE game that meets underwhelming sales and they file bankruptcy very shortly afterwards. Am I the only person that sees something wrong here?
  • Too many layoffs these days...

  • Too bad, I personally haven't enjoyed recent Silicon knights games, but I do think the studio has potential.  Here's hoping they get to make more games!

  • So they denied the cancellation that they haven't even confirmed they are working on, so is that an indirect confirmation that they are working on it?...

  • Wait. Eternal Darkness for Wii U???!? Holy balls. Take my car and my house, and give me that game.
