Final Fantasy XIV For PS3 Still Coming Along

Update: A Square Enix representative offered this correction: "The game is planned for beta this winter and at around that time select PS3 players will have an opportunity to join the beta. The game is set to launch sometime after beta. "

We haven't heard or seen much of Final Fantasy XIV for PlayStation 3 since it was first announced at E3 2009. Square Enix now promises we'll finally get a look at it this summer.

The PlayStation Blog posted a new interview with the game's director and producer Naoki Yoshida. Version 2.0 of Final Fantasy XIV is launching this winter on PC along with the PlayStation 3 version.

“Right now it’s optimized for PC. We’re about 50% into the development of the PS3 version, but it’s pretty much how it’s going to look on the console as well,” Yoshida said. “It uses the same new graphics engine we built just for this game. This summer we’ll have an opportunity to show the PS3 version.”

I wonder how many new players they're going to pick up with the PS3 version. Probably not enough to make it worth the effort of making it. :/

I would check out a PS3 beta, but I wouldn't buy a full version without a chance to check it out, too much risk considering the problems with the PC version.

Can we please just limp past this gaping wound of a game and move on to Final Fantasy XV? I don't even care about Versus XIII anymore. If Versus is anything like XIII and XIII-2, with their vapid, unlikeable characters, completely uninteligible plot, and that awful, horrendous auto-pilot inducing battle system where you only control one character, then no thanks, I don't need more of that. As for XIV, this game just needs to go away. It's had SO much bad press because it's been so embarassingly bad from the outset that now it feels like they're just trying to complete it so that they can make SOME money back on such a flaming turd of an investment. Cut your loses, and bring together a team of people that actually know how to make a Final Fantasy game that fans want to play. Let words like "turn-based," "character depth," "exploration," "fun," etc be your guideposts.
