The Last Guardian Still In Development

Sony's E3 2012 press conference came and went, and the company made no mention of its troubled first-party title The Last Guardian.

At DICE in February earlier this year, Sony's president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida said the game was being reworked after running into techincal issues. When asked today at E3, Yoshida was unable to provide any new updates, but did say the game was coming along.

"There are some technical issues being addressed. There’s not much to show what it looks like," he told Game Informer. "This period of time we are unable to give an update, but the game is still in development."

The Last Guardian was first unveiled at E3 2009.

Comments
  • I want to see more of this game so bad, but I'm just glad its still alive somewhere.
  • Thank god, i was scared there for a while

  • Probably the biggest disappointment of E3
  • The lack of any info for The Last Guardian is probably the most disappointing thing about this E3. At least the game is still alive.
  • This announcement was expected, but still makes me sad.  At least there is still hope.

  • Guess its only Agent thats cancelled then..
  • It's absence from E3 was a bit of a disappointment.
  • It was first unveiled at E3 2009?!? I can hardly believe it was 3 years ago.

Anyway I'm glad they're still developing it, even if it has to come out on next-gen systems due to hardware limitations I'll be completely fine with that.

  • this better be worth it...

  • I honestly dont think it will be as good anymore since the head or studio guy left(forgot his name) however im holding out hope because I loved SOTC
  • This game is going to take its time and Sony gives it to the team.

  • Those feathers are apparently very hard to program...

  • What he really means is "Yeah, it's in dev hell."

  • I'm glad that this is still in the works. I love the Trico games. The rumor I heard is that Sony was pressing them to put Move into this game, and that was one of the main reasons Ueda went freelance. If that's the case, I hope Sony realizes what a valuable relationship they've jeopardized, and that not every title needs Move support. I certainly don't care for Move.
  • Just glad it hasn't been canned.

  • Thank god. When I heard the birds chirping for The Last of Us I was like' "please be Last Guardian." I was definitely a little disappointed. The Last Guardian will be the best PS3 game of all time if it's their original vision.

  • Why do so many people care about this game? I don't know much about it but a lot of people want it out already.
  • Being optimistic, I hope "technical issues" means secretly updating the graphics for PS4.

But that's just crazy talk, right?

  • This game seems to be putting the developers through the ringer, glad they are pushing forward with development this is at the top of my most wanted.

  • The Last Guardian's development is looking about as sad as that bird/hyena thing in the screenshot. It's disappointing to see them as the one game left in the room to miss the E3 party in a way. I hope that when we finally get it, it doesn't end up as a 5 hour runaround. . .
