Nintendo Land Could Possibly Come Bundled With Wii U

Even with Nintendo’s focus on the Wii U during this year’s E3, there are many questions we still don’t know the answers to regarding the upcoming console. The publisher still isn’t ready to announce a price point or specific launch date, and we don’t know what the retail package will include. Part of the success of the original Wii was the decision to bundle it with the popular Wii Sports, a title that put the system’s hardware capabilities front and center. Considering that Nintendo Land is hoping to accomplish the same goal, many at the show have speculated whether or not the game will be included in the Wii U purchase. Earlier tonight after a Nintendo roundtable that focused on the game, that question was the first to be brought up when the presentation shifted to Q&A.

When asked about the possibility of this happening, Nintendo software producer Katsuya Eguchi responded “If you think of Wii U and Nintendo Land as having the same relationship as Wii Sports and Wii, the concept is kind of similar. You may be able to imagine a scenario similar to that.” He then reminded the audience that Wii Sports was sold separately in Japan, being included as a pack-in only in North America.

During the same discussion, the producer also confirmed that save files and WiiWare/Virtual Console purchases from the Wii will indeed transfer to the Wii U. We’ll have more Nintendo information tomorrow night after their Software Showcase presentation that focuses on the 3DS.

  • I would be REALLY surprised if it didnt. At least its a better launch than wii sports... i think
  • Cool looks fun to
  • I kinda figured that it already was going to be.

  • If these are the only launch titles for Wii U I might not get one until a cool Zelda or Metroid bundle comes out. Of topic but could anyone tell me when (if at all) Epic will talk (preferably about UE4) and when Nintendo most likely be making more Wii U announcements? Are their any more big video game confrences maybe in Japan or something?
  • If it does that would be great. But if it doesn't then come with the Wii U and it would make the console cheaper then I would prefer that.

  • only way im gettin it

  • OH NICE, glad to hear I can transfer my Wii files and saves over to the Wii U. My Wii fan has been making funny noises ever since Xenoblade was first put in there. That thing really is the least reliable console Nintendo ever made.
  • Well, that's exactly what they seemed to be getting at in the conference. It's going to be bundled. They created it to help consumers UNDERSTAND the Wii U. Apparently we need it.

  • I was already under the assumption it was going to be bundled... the news that there is a possibility that it couldn't be is a little depressing

  • Yeah I would figure this would come bundled with the system. They better be working on a Wii-U Sports title, because I honestly don't think Nintendo Land is rudimentary enough to grab the attention of super casual gamers. I bet they think Wii-U Sports would sell at retail, so they don't want to give it away this time.

Overall though I think the treatment of Nintendo Land has been a little harsh. It isn't like this is their marquee product. It is some simple, fun stuff to get people started on the system. This doesn't erase the fact that Pikmin 3, Assassins Creed 3, ZombiU, Rayman Legends, and New Super Mario Bros U are all going to be there, at launch, and I might just get all of them. I might even put off the amazing looking Darksiders 2 and get it on the Wii-U as well.
  • I expected this

  • I think it should be priced somewhere in the vicinity of $300.00, maybe $50.00 more or less
  • I would be surprised if it didn't come bundled, especially since they talked about the relationship between wii sports and the wii.

  • I hope it does. I want to play it, but... I really don't want to buy it as a standalone product. Even if I'm paying for it alongside the WiiU console, the argument could still be made that you're getting the game for free.

And it's great to hear about the Virtual Console games.

  • Awesome. Looks great.

  • Awesome. Looks great.

  • I kind of wish that it would come with a "wii u sports" game, because that would be fun, but this seems to capture wii u's tablet controls better.

  • it better come bundled. No way am i paying a seperate $50-60+ for that game.

If its a pack-in that's meant to showcase some of the potential of the WiiU Gamepad, then I can approach it in a different way and find some enjoyment playing it.

  • There is a reason that in the GI informer video review of the Nintendo press conference they didn't even want to talk about this....there is no way I'm getting a Wii U if this is what comes with it!
