New Super Mario Bros. U Announced

Update: The latest screens have been added, along with the trailer Nintendo showcased at its press conference.

Original Story: Nintendo's newest Mario adventure will leverage the potential of the Miiverse.

Nintendo took advantage of its press conference to show off the newest adventure for Mario.

Up to four players will be able to play the game with Wii remotes, but a fifth player can join in using the Wii U gamepad to place platforms in the game. You'll also be able to see messages from other players and friends in the Miiverse within the game world. 

The onstage demo showed off a number of fun new features, including what looked like a flying squirrel suit, baby Yoshi blowing bubbles, super-sized goombas and other enemies, and the expected mix of new levels and challenges.
