Rayman Legends Wii U Gameplay Shown

by Matthew Kato on Jun 04, 2012 at 12:45 PM

A brief look at a new Rayman game at Ubisoft's E3 press conference showed off the Wii U GamePad via a new character for Rayman Legends.

Though Ubi didn't announce a release date, the demo gave an interesting look at the GamePad.

New character Murphy can be controlled by a separate player from whoever is jumping around as Rayman or Globox. The game supports five players total as well as Wii remotes.

As Rayman went through the level, the player controlling Murphy interacted with the environments, helped with puzzles, harassed enemies, and buzzed around the level. The Wii U touchscreen allows users to take out enemies, clear paths and use the gyroscope technology to manipulate and rotate platforms.

The demo also showed off a subsequent level that featured a surf-rock song. As Rayman and Globox were automatically propelled through the level, the player who controlled Murphy tapped the GamePad screen in time to the song's beats and rhythmic background, while Rayman and Globox's actions highlighted the melodic guitars and other sounds.

Ubisoft is getting in on the ground floor with Nintendo's console, and Rayman Legends looks to be a nice way to show off the system.
