Quantic Dream Reveals Beyond: Two Souls

by Matt Miller on Jun 04, 2012 at 03:25 PM

Update: Trailer and screens added. The makers of Heavy Rain have announced their next game – Beyond: Two Souls.

David Cage took the stage at the Sony press conference to reveal the next project from his storytelling-focused studio.

Jodie Holmes is the main character of the new project. We'll follow her through 15 years of her life.

Cage didn't reveal too much about the game, but did reveal that Ellen Page is the actress behind the central character.

After that announcement, we got to see an early look at the game in action -- a cinematic exchange between Jodie and a police officer. The officer has picked up Jodie by the side of the road, but she's unwilling to speak. When he notices a scar on her neck, a coffee cup on the side of the table supernaturallly lifts off and flings itself against the table.

Suddenly, SWAT breaks into the police station and prepares to storm the room she's in. The demo cuts to numerous action-packed sequences of Jodie on the run, but leaves many mysteries about the exact nature of Jodie's supernatural powers. Both the title of the game and comments by Jodie in the demo indicate that a second, invisible entity named Ivan is accompanying the woman on her journey.

Beyond has some of the most expressive and detailed facial animation we've seen in a game, but it remains to be seen what the project's gameplay will focus on. Are you excited about a new game from the makers of Heavy Rain?
