Microsoft's Xbox Live Update Adds Music Service And More Sports

by Dan Ryckert on Jun 04, 2012 at 07:22 AM

Later this year, Microsoft will be adding music, new video providers, more sports, and an improved search engine to its Xbox Live service.

At Microsoft’s E3 press conference, the publisher announced that it would be updating several aspects of its Xbox Live service. Microsoft’s new Bing search will allow you to use Kinect to search for items by genre, so if you search for all sci-fi items, Bing will pull up all movies and games under that genre. Bing will also recognize 12 additional languages, so if you’re a Spanish speaker, Bing will finally respond to you.

Four new media providers including Nickelodeon, Paramount, Machinima, and UVideos will all be available on Xbox Live sometime soon as well. Sports lovers will be excited to know that the NBA and NHL are also coming to Xbox Live, and ESPN will start providing 24-hour sports coverage through the Xbox dashboard, pushing its content from all ESPN channels onto Xbox consoles.

Finally, Microsoft announced that it would be releasing a new music service, providing Xbox users with over 30 million music tracks, and letting them share music tracks with their friends and discover new artists.

We don’t have any word on when we cab expect these updates, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
