The lights are on
Microsoft is making some pretty impressive claims about the Xbox 360, Kinect, and the system's place in the console market.
According to Official Microsoft Blog chief marketing officer Yusuf Mehdi, since its launch there have been 67 million Xbox 360 consoles sold worldwide at a total profit to Microsoft of $56 billion. He says this means that it owns 47 percent of the current-generation console market, and according to Mehdi these sales numbers have broken the traditional pattern for a home console. Instead of selling fewer consoles as it gets older, the Xbox seems to get better with age, selling more consoles each year.
However, Mehdi's math doesn't add up. If the Wii (approximately 90-plus million units sold worldwide) and PlayStation 3 (60-plus million) are also in the current-gen market, how can Microsoft claim almost half of the console market by itself?
He also mentions that the company has sold 19 million Kinect units and Xbox Live has 40 million members (although no distinction is made between the different membership tiers).
Mehdi attributes the platform's success to the fact that they are constantly adding new software and features to the Xbox platform. This claim is interesting, since the response to the announcement on GI's website about the new Amazon Instant app ranged from the apathetic to the openly hostile. Whether or not fans appreciate this newest addition to the Xbox platform, every Xbox user can agree that the 360 is more than just a gaming console.

@zombie apocalypse (iPhone won't reply specifically) I mearly meant that they r the gaming equivalent because just like jk Rowling they got a good break and now they hold it over everyone's head. She was poor and now she's rich and you never hear about her contributing to anything all she cares about is the money and being the best, maybe not the second part but I believe I've made my point
Yes the 360 is king and the porcelain throne is waiting just down the hallway. XD
I'm sorry but you gotta be full of it if you're claiming something like this about yourself. Now, I got nothing against the 360 and you can't really argue with sales numbers (althoug I'm sure some of it comes from getting a new one when previous broke w/o warranty), but this is just too much.
let me say this thats bull$hit come on most of ur time microsoft was on kinect i dont see how u can be king if all u guys do is focus on kinect.
The only reason the video game department of Microsoft still exists is because of the rest of the company.
also besides ur console is not strictly for gaming nintendo is so u need to start backing up with facts then putting out lies and at least we dont have to pay fees to get online.Mostly u got more kinect kiddie games for ur system then good ones except for a few.Im not trying to be biased but its the truth dude last e3 was all about kinect better do it again or u dig ur own grave.
3 of my 4 xboxs have broken... i only place xbox for a few games. forza is one. other then that, PC or ps3 only. but honestly i find it better to just own all the systems lol
there some games i like halo, transformers, and to name a few on 360 but the rest are kinect trash.
Good for them as long as they give me something to do when im bored im fine
Still love the PS3!
HEY THE WII IS WAY BETTER THEN THE XBOX
This might be the most fanboy filled article I have ever seen in GameInformer
cocky much?
They didnt take into account 360 owners like myself who are tired of the "Exclusive to xbox for 30 days-6 months" before comming to another console/PC with extra content over new fully backed IP.I knew Kinect was a fad from a mile away and stayed away from it.
Words of wisdom for you... These are multi billion dollar corporations who could give a $h!+ less about you they want your money,so speak with your dollars and dont be a fanboy! next gen for me is PC/Possible PS4
