Minecraft Knocks Black Ops Down A Peg On Xbox Live

The Xbox 360 port of Mojang's Minecraft has been a big hit for the console, selling more than a million copies in less than a week. As it turns out, the folks who downloaded the game actually played it, too.

According to the most recent chart of Xbox Live activity, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has racked up a substantial number of unique users. How many? Well, Microsoft isn't spilling that info. They are, however, saying that there were enough Minecraft players the week of May 14 to knock Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops off its usual number two position. Here's the complete list:

  1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  2. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
  3. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  4. FIFA 12
  5. Battlefield 3
  6. Halo: Reach
  7. Modern Warfare 2
  8. NBA 2K12
  9. Skyrim
  10. Gears of War 3
  11. GTA IV
  12. Forza Motorsport 4
  13. Max Payne 3
  14. Trials Evolution
  15. Mass Effect 3
  16. NHL12
  17. Madden NFL 12
  18. Halo 3
  19. Red Dead Redemption
  20. Saints Row: The Third

Not surprisingly, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was the number one game on Xbox Live Arcade, with Trials Evolution, The Walking Dead, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II, and Castle Crashers rounding out the top five.

  • That's good I suppose. I've yet too download it, but I will soon.

  • I love minecraft! I'm building my castle in the mountains right now. There's just so much freedom and creativity to this game.

  • Halo 3. Red dead. GTA 4. MW 2. Wow there are some really old games on this list.
  • Congratulation Mojang! They must be having a pizza party or something in their office in celebration of this accomplishment. Also, I still need to try out Minecraft (it looks fun).
  • http://tinyurl.com/goodb4biz .. . . . . . .
  • Oh Minecraft... building virtual legos with the threat of death has never been so fun.
  • Wow, that makes me happy to see some other games getting some good attention. Nice to see Halo 3 up there, too!

  • Way to hang in there RDR!!!

  • I hope Halo 3 will stay high on that list. I don't want Bungie/Microsoft to shut down the servers.
  • i still need to download Minecraft. It looks so good I just really need the time to sit down and actually enjoy it

  • I don't get it, but to each his own. Also, Minecraft has ben out for a month and blops for a year and a half, so that probably has a lot to do with it
  • Congrats... I guess?

  • The fact that three Modern Warfare games are in the top 7 surprises me. I mean Black Ops has some things MW 3 doesn't but why keep playing MW 2 so much?

EDIT: Lol I called em Modern Warfare games instead of Call of Duty games. That's funny.
  • I would much prefer Minecraft have that top spot then Call of Duty.
  • Haha, nice!!  Great job Minecraft!

  • thats epic! haha. Congrats to them! and down with CoD

  • I, personally, am a Total Miner. The game is so similar to Minecraft that you could almost say it's plagiarized although the guy who made it says that he did not copy any of MCs code (and MCs creator complimented him on some aspects of the game as well). Also, it only costs 240MP, which is less than an animated GoW3 weapon skin @320MPs. There are a few annoying things about it, though. The modes are limited right now and there's no other survival mode that allows you to play without having to unlock blueprints for the tools. So every time you start a new world you have to unlock everything from scratch... The core essence of the game is very similar to Minecraft, though. If I ever get Minecraft, however, I'm just going to get the PC version instead. I feel like the 360 version would limit the experience too much.
  • thats epic! haha. Congrats to them! and down with CoD

  • I knew this game would sell well on console especially when my friend a hardcore cod and military shooter fan saw me playing this game and when i explained the concept to him he seemed eager to try but didn't like the idea of playing on PC but couldn't wait for the xbox edition i think that goes to show that anyone who would give this game a chance can really see how good it is and the xbox version i my opinion opened the door to a new audience

  • Forgive my stupidity but you can play Skyrim online? like as in Multiplayer or something?
