Konami Sued Over Def Jam Rapstar Millions
City National Bank (CNB) is suing Konami, claiming that the publisher hasn't paid back any of the $14 million it and developer Autumn Games used to create the game Def Jam Rapstar.
Courthouse News Service reports that the bank claims that Konami said it would repay the loan using revenue from the games sales – something that the bank says hasn't happened.
The complaint filed reads, in part: "Rather than paying game-related proceeds directly to CNB as agreed, defendant have kept all game-related proceeds for themselves and have refused to remit any such proceeds to CNB."
It also alleges that Konami made "unrealistic predictions" by saying the game would sell 2.5 million units in its first year.
Konami hasn't commented on the matter, but the bank's complaint says that Konami insists that it is not required to pay CNB from the game's proceeds. CNB is seeking more than $8.9 million in damages.
